CHAPTER33
I found a quiet spot outside at the wedding and pulled my phone out. I hoped Jennifer was awake, because I really needed her advice.
Pippa:I had sex with Andrew.
I typed and waited for a response. Thankfully, it came.
Jennifer:You had sex with your fake boyfriend?
Pippa:Exactly.
Jennifer:That’s going to complicate things.
Pippa:That’s what he said.
Jennifer:Do you want things to get complicated?
Pippa:That’s exactly what he asked me! What does that even mean? Who wants complicated?
Jennifer:I don’t mean literally , I mean, do you want this relationshipnotto be fake?
Pippa:So real? Real relationship?
Jennifer:Do you?
Do I? The big question. The question that didn’t seem to have an easy answer.
Pippa:I don’t know.
Jennifer:Well, how do you feel about him?
Pippa:I’ve been thinking about him a lot.
Pippa:And I get excited to hear his voice on the radio.
Pippa:But I also worry that he’ll get to know me better and then leave.
Pippa:And I think I might have already shown him too much of myself.
Pippa:And I also don’t think he’s the kind of guy who would go out with me, in real life, anyway.
Jennifer:What does that even mean?
Pippa:He’s too perfect. And normal. And nice.
I almost said ‘for me’, but didn’t.Maybe Delia and Tertia were right?
Jennifer:That’s a ridiculous reason.
Pippa:Okay, what about this reason? My relationships always go wrong.
Jennifer:Maybe they go wrong because you always choose the wrong guy?
Pippa:And Andrew is the right kind of guy?
Jennifer:When did you last look forward to speaking to someone? You barely speak to me or look forward to speaking to me.
Pippa:That’s true!
