Gene snorted.
“My dude, I can’t handle you. I certainly can’t handle two Blackhawk boys. It would kill me. No one’s heart is that damn strong.”
He glanced over.
“If I ever caught you two in bed, I’d kill you. You wouldn’t have to worry about the rest. I’d also kill him. I can’t handle being betrayed again. That will never go away.”
Gene touched his arm.
Apparently, he thought he was serious. Gene wasn’t attracted to anyone but Ethan. He owned his whole heart.
“I’ll never cheat on you. That shit isn’t happening. I’m happy, EJ. I promise.”
Ethan hoped so.
Because he meant what he’d said. It would take an act of God to stop him from homicide if he ever found out Gene was sleeping with anyone but him.
He was possessive.
To.
His.
Core.
Chapter Nine
The Rez
Late At Night
Still Friday
When they pulled up to his brother’s home, Ethan stared at the cabin, and the lights were on inside. His brother was most definitely home, and he hoped he was doing the right thing instead of making a huge mistake.
Every ounce of him told him to run from this mess and leave it alone.
Only, Gene was right.
At some point, he had to grow the fuck up, man up, and stop running from his problems. At some point, he had to face them down and take care of them when they started.
Not when they were already a hot mess.
He wasn’t sure if he and Callen could fix what they had, or if it was best to just go home and let it play out, but at some point, he needed to work through this trauma.
Because Gene was right.
That was what it was.
Deep down, he wanted to make sure he fixed himself, so that he didn’t lose the best thing in his life.
Gene.
“Want me to come in with you?” Gene asked.
Ethan nodded.
“Yes, can you? If I can look over at you, I’ll know if I’m fucking this up or not. Just help me get through it. I need some support. If you’re wrong…”
