West slid a look at Braylon. “You’re grinning. Did you know?”

“I had my suspicions.”

“You did?” she asked. “Why didn’t you say anything?”

“Why would I? I could have been wrong. Maybe you two just constantly rub each other the wrong way. There is a fine line between annoyance and attraction.”

“Oh, we do,” he said. “But there’s a hell of a lot more to your cousin than her short fuse.”

“That few people get to see,” Paris added. “But Spencer has seen it from the start.”

He straightened, meeting West’s eyes head-on. “None of this affects my judgment. I’ll still tell London no if I don’tagree with a proposal or if she wants to push something outside legal limits.”

“And I have no problem giving him grief and making him explain exactly why I can or can’t do what I want,” she said brightly.

West exhaled a dry laugh. “Sounds a little like me and Abby.”

He blinked. That sounded like acceptance.

And the biggest surprise of all?

No one looked shocked.

No one looked upset.

If anything, they looked like they’d been waiting for this shoe to drop from day one and that he was the idiot for wanting to keep this from them.

“We’d like to continue keeping this quiet,” he said. “It’s best that way.”

“Agreed,” Braylon said. “Only the people in this room know?”

“My parents know,” she said.

“And somehow my mother doesn’t know?” West asked, smirking. “I find that hard to believe.” He turned to London.

“I told my mother not to say a word. If she did, then Aunt Aileen is keeping it to herself.”

Both Braylon and West burst out laughing. “No. Not possible. She’d never be able to do it no matter how much she wants to say she can,” West said.

“Then it’s only us.”

“And Coy and Angel,” she said. “Your parents.”

“But they aren’t here so that doesn’t count.”

“Then I’d say we’re done. Almost,” West said. He just nodded once, then jerked his head toward the hallway. “Walk with me, Spencer.”

He forced his stomach not to tighten and stood. Londonshot him a don’t-poke-the-bear look. As if he ever would. She’d be the one more likely to do it.

He followed West out of the conference room, down the short hall, and into London’s office. West closed the door behind them with a soft click.

The last thing he wanted was his job on the line. It was bad enough he worried he was only hired because of his relationship with the Bonds, but it was another thing altogether to think his personal life was now going to get in the way.

The rule-following guy broke one he’d made for himself and he hoped to hell it didn’t bite him in the ass.

But there was no yelling. No posturing. Just West standing there, arms folded, studying him like a witness on the stand he wasn’t convinced was telling the full truth.

“Are you serious about her?” West asked.
