Lou sucked in a breath through her teeth. ‘Very bad timing.’

‘Yeah.’

‘What’s our end going to be then?’ Lou asked, steeling herself for the answer.

There was a long painful silence. ‘That’s the thing,’ Aidan said eventually. ‘I can’t see any.’

Lou let out a breath of relief.

‘Unless maybe… fish soup?’

They both laughed.

‘Do you think anyone’s ever broken up over soup?’ Lou asked.

‘I think we’d definitely be the first. So, something to think about if you fancy that distinction.’

Lou tilted her head. ‘It would be kind of a cool story.’

‘What do you want to do for the rest of the day?’ Aidan asked when they’d cleared away after breakfast.

Lou raised an eyebrow. ‘The rest of the morning, you mean? Because don’t you have a lunch service to run?’

Aidan groaned. ‘Why did I ever think it was a good idea to open a restaurant?’

‘Why didn’t you think it’d be a good idea to let your sous-chef cook the full menu?’

‘You’re right. Do you think Shane would mind if I let him run lunch today?’

‘I think he’d be thrilled. But it wouldn’t be fair to spring it on him this late.’

‘I could be sick? I mean, that could happen.’

‘It could. But you’re not.’

‘Yeah, you’re right. I guess I made my bed… So, what do you want to do for the rest of the morning?’

Lou twisted her mouth, pretending to consider. ‘Lie in it?’

‘Tired?’ Aidan asked with a smirk.

‘Not really. You?’

‘Wide awake.’

Lou laughed as he grabbed her hand and led her to the bedroom.
