Chapter Twenty-Seven

Before

TREVOR

Trevor was so gladall the band had gotten together and demanded a one-week break when they got home from tour before they had to do any more recording or appearances. They certainly needed it.

Noah was going home to Seattle to see his girlfriend, Jermaine and Oli were renting a beach villa in Jamaica and planning to get drunk off mai tais all day, and he and Skyler were staying in Ohio with Skyler’s family. But first they’d made time to have dinner with Trevor’s mom in L.A. Skyler had been determined to learn her lasagna recipe ever since Trevor mentioned loving it.

Maggie hadn’t been thrilled with the idea of Trevor and Skyler flying to Ohio together, but she’d arranged security for them at the airports anyway. She’d warned them to be discreet—as if they hadn’t been doing that for the last couple years—so they made sure to keep their hoods up and heads down as they were shuffled through a private exit when they landed, and they were pretty sure no one spotted them.

It was frustrating that Trevor couldn’t casually go visit his boyfriend’s family like a normal person without it requiring a covert ops mission, but he was aware of the shitstorm it would cause if fans found out, and he didn’t want to deal with the consequences.

Skyler’s childhood bedroom was pretty much exactly how he’d pictured it. Posters from various musicals covered the walls, books lined the shelves, and there was a giant stuffed frog resting against a pillow that he already knew was named Freddie.

After setting their bags on the twin bed, he turned to Skyler with a devilish grin. “So you’ve never had sex on this bed.”

Skyler’s eyebrows shot up. “Nope. Definitely haven’t.”

“How do you feel about changing that this week?”

It was cute the way Skyler tried to hide his smile behind his fist. “My parents’ room is only two doors down. We’d have to be really quiet.”

He laughed. “You say that as if you don’t mean thatyou’dhave to be really quiet. We both know you’re the loud one.”

“Excuse you,” Skyler said, cheeks turning red, “but I’m pretty sure I’ve managed to make you scream more than a few times.”

Trevor stepped forward and swept his thumb over his cheekbone. “You have, baby. I’m only teasing you.”

Skyler grabbed him by the front of his shirt to tug him in for a kiss. He nipped gently on Trevor’s bottom lip as they pulled apart. “I’m honestly more worried about Layla hearing us than my parents. She already told me if she has to listen to us fuck, she’ll sneak in and shave my head while I’m asleep. And if she thinks we’re wasting this week off not having sex, she’s crazy, but being bald is something I’d like to avoid, so let’s please be careful about it.”

“I could always gag you.”

The way Skyler sputtered at the joke you’d think he was scandalized, but Trevor knew better. He caught the glint in his eye that hinted at intrigue.Hmm.He’d definitely remember that for another time.

Right now, he wanted to get back downstairs with everyone else. Skyler’s family had flown out to watch a few shows before, but this would be the first time Trevor spent significant time with them since their initial visit. He was already pretty close with them, but he hoped with more time together, they’d become like family to him.

When they joined Skyler’s parents in the kitchen, they were greeted with the smell of chocolate chip cookies fresh from the oven.

“Are you trying to fatten me up already?” Skyler asked, reaching for one anyway.

“First of all, no body shaming,” his mom said, pointing a threatening finger at him. “And I’m not worried about you. I’m making sure Trevor’s happy here so he’ll come to visit more often.”

Trevor grabbed a cookie and smiled. “Thank you, but you didn’t have to bake for me. I’m already happy to be here. And I’m sorry I haven’t been able to come until now.”

“Oh, sweetie.” Theresa shook her head as she briefly touched his arm. “It’s not your fault you’ve all been so busy.”

“They sure do keep you boys moving, don’t they?” Skyler’s dad chimed in from his place at the small round table where he was drinking a cup of coffee and reading the newspaper. “Bet you’re both relieved to finally have time off.”

“We are,” Skyler said. “One week doesn’t seem like enough though.”

“No, it doesn’t,” Theresa agreed. “How’s the next album coming along? Is it almost done?”

Trevor shook his head. “Not quite. We’ve still got some stuff to record, and the producers haven’t finalized the track list. They’re looking for a few more songs to round it out.”

“Trevor wrote like half of the ones we have so far,” Skyler added, slinging his free arm around Trevor’s waist.

“That’s not true,” he said, ducking his head.
