‘Time, everyone!’ Brad yells, breaking the spell. ‘I hope you all managed to connect and raise your vibration to a higher level. Remember, if you feel the need, you can practise this with your partner in your free time. It’s worth the effort.’
Will and I both stand and collect our belongings. He’s about to speak to me when Meg bounds up.
‘Ready for lunch, Nora?’
I look at Will. ‘Um, well—’
‘Sorry, Will, girls only!’ she insists, grabbing me by the hand. ‘See you after lunch!’
I don’t argue, instead I allow myself to be dragged back to her lodge where I’m offered some weird couscous salad and plonked down in front of a deck of blue tarot cards.
‘Does it matter that I don’t really believe in any of this?’ I ask, hoping to find some hidden bacon in this vegan lunch bowl.
‘Not really,’ she replies. ‘Tarot is simply a tool and my intuition, along with your subconscious energy, will let me look at where you are right now and the possibilities of what the future may hold. Since we don’t have a whole lot of time, we’ll do a quick three-card cluster. Now ask a question you would like the answer to. Don’t tell me, just ask it in your mind.’
I figure that with all the weirdness I’ve had to endure this week, another few minutes won’t make any difference. I take a breath.
Is there someone out there for me?
I nod to indicate that I’ve asked before regretting my question and wishing I’d asked something less selfish. Like, will Charlie have a good life, or will my business continue to thrive? Not like it matters, I get the feeling this is going to be so vague it could apply to any question ever asked.
Meg takes a spoonful of her salad, then shuffles the deck, hands it to me to shuffle too and spreads the cards in semi-circle over the table.
I wonder what Will’s doing right now.
‘Choose three cards.’
I touch three and she gathers them up, placing the rest to one side. She’s like a croupier in a tie-dye pantaloons.
‘So, the first card represents the issue at hand, the second card tells you what not to do and the third is your guide to the correct path.’
She turns over the first card. ‘Interesting. There is definitely someone out there for you,’ she begins, and I nearly fall off my chair. ‘The Lovers card represents not only relationships but choices and decisions that have to be made regarding them.’
She turns over the second. ‘The Tower card. You’ve been shaken to your core recently. You’ve had an awakening. Don’t ignore this. You must rebuild from your stronger foundation, not remain in the ashes wondering how you got there. The advice here is not to take refuge in something unstable.’
What the hell does that mean? Is Will unstable? Am I? She’s right about the awakening though, I have a bucket-load of tears to prove it.
The third card makes her smile. ‘Ah, the Death card. Don’t look so concerned, this doesn’t mean you’re literally going to die, it means the end of a cycle. A dry spell, perhaps?’
I hope so, I’m pretty sure Laurence of Arabia has moved into my vajayjay. Laurence of my Labia…I try very hard not to smirk.
‘Also, the fact that you’ve chosen this along with the Tower card and the Lovers makes me think that there is a big decision to be made. Things must end before they can begin. As this is the “what to do” card, my advice would be enjoy the moment while you can.’
She’s kind of like the Riddler but still, part of me is impressed. She knew exactly what I asked.Unless I inadvertently mouthed the words and didn’t realise. Regardless, I thank her for both the salad and the reading before returning to my cabin for the last twenty minutes of our lunch break. I know I should speak to Will, but I have the feeling we’ll need more than twenty minutes to sort all this out.
You must rebuild from your stronger foundation, not remain in the ashes wondering how you got there.
I quite like that, I think, drinking my leftover breakfast juice. Onwards and upwards.
CHAPTER24
I make it back up to the main house just in time for the afternoon session – Anna’s visualisation workshop – but my mind is already distracted by the way Will looked at me during our eye-banging session. He arrives seconds after me and sits beside me, keeping his gaze firmly on Anna but his thigh dangerously close to mine.
‘So far, you’ve made your order to the universe, you’ve written in detail about the type of relationship or person you want to meet, and you’ve worked hard on releasing your negative thoughts about yourself and your past. Now it’s time to put yourself into that relationship. Visualisation is more than just daydreaming. I want you to immerse yourself in this parallel reality.’
Anna clicks her clicker and the screen behind her displays VISUALISING A NEW LOVE.
‘Number one,’ she barks. ‘Put yourself in their shoes. Imagine how happy they are that they get to be with you. What better way to raise your vibration than to sit and think about just how awesome you are, right?’
