Jesus, can you stop saying Aiden!

Alex stepped out and smiled meekly. ‘Hi. Nice to meet you.’

The look of confusion on Aiden’s face only lasted for a moment before reality set in. ‘Hi,’ he blurted back, his gaze quickly leaving Alex and focusing on anything else.

‘This is Christine,’ Becky said to an increasingly pale-faced Aiden. Christine raised her hand to greet him.

‘Lovely to meet all of you,’ he said. ‘I’m just going to grab the last bag from the car.’

‘I’ll give you a hand, mate.’ Paul insisted. ‘Give this lot a chance to squeal at each other properly.’

While everyone interrogated Tara on where she’d met such a fine specimen, Alex considered her options. She could tell everyone that it was Aiden she’d met at the airport, but then she’d have to explain why she gave him her phone number despite knowing he had a girlfriend and that would be almost as awkward as Aiden explaining why he’d taken her phone number in the first place. The second option was to mention none of this and continue acting like they’d never met. The third and final option was to flee, never to be heard from again.

‘Dinner’s in an hour if anyone needs to freshen up?’ Erin asked. ‘I’m so excited to see you all, you have no idea! I’m sure this’ll be a weekend we’ll never forget.’

Alex smiled and secretly agreed with every word Erin said, but for all the wrong reasons.
