“Simone’s pets?”

“Yeah… there are a few of them. Leo, Kendra… Ace, Brianna.”

I seriously needed to know more. “Why are they her pets?”

“Well, they’re all really talented,” she explained as she swiped the key card. “She calls on them for special assignments. Missing people cases, unsolved murders, stolen art… stuff like that.”

“Cool.” I was officially impressed… and a little jealous.

She pouted. “They get to fly on her private jet and stay in fancy hotels.”

Okay… I was not just a little jealous, I was green with envy.

“Leo’s a Reader like you, a really good psychometrist. He’s amazing with objects, too, not just people.”

Just like me, I thought. I wondered if he was better than me.

“And Kendra’s a Channeler, a.k.a. a Medium.”

“I know. She told me. What about Brianna?”

“She’s a Dreamer. She sees stuff in her dreams.”

“And what about Ace?”

She turned to me, a strange expression tracing her soft features. “Ace… he’s super cute but he’s kind of a freak. He scares the shit out of me sometimes.”

“Yeah… I heard he can control people.”

She nodded as she tucked her yoga mat and gym bag in our closet. “He’s a master hypnotist… once we were messing around at a party.” She smiled. “Not that kind of fooling around… we had sneaked into the boys’ dorm and were playing Clue and everyone was drinking a bit, except me. Anyway, Ace did his thing, just for fun, and put me under, and he brought me back to my childhood. There I was on my purple bicycle with the Barbie bell… my dad was pushing me around the curb and I was so damn proud of myself.” She stripped off her yoga top, completely carefree. “I swear… it was like I was right there… it wasn’t just a memory or a dream. I was there. He had taken me back in time.”

I peeled off my sweats. “Wow.”

“It kind of freaked me out, to be honest. Ace is like a drug. He has the power to control you… control your mind. I hate not being in control of my body or mind. It’s why I’ve never done drugs and hardly ever drink.”

“I’m the same.”

She laughed as she grabbed a large pink towel from one of the hooks on the wall. She wrapped it around herself. “Then, you better stay away from Ace.”

I nodded, speechless.

“Well, I’m off to the shower. See you.”

She left me alone with my thoughts. And full of questions.

Me: Hey, Kylie. What’s up?!

Kylie: Mommy is making me drink almond milk instead of regular milk. Disgusting!!

Me: I feel ya. You should see the stuff they serve at the cafeteria.

Kylie: What r u doing this weeknd?

Me: I went to a party last night. It was pretty cool! This morning, I did yoga.

Kylie: No way!! Jealous! I can’t believe you did yoga. Did Pompom go to the party?

Me: No, he said he wanted to stay in. He’s so boring.
