Nothing because it would be too soon. It’s been how many weeks since my last Plan B?
Our official first night at the club was four months ago.
No, almost five months ago.
So the last Plan B was almost two months ago?
Shit, Johnni!
“Yeah or maybe you and Quincey are finally starting a family. Ooh, my gosh. That would be the best news ever, then Minnie will have a cousin to play with since Amber—” It was like I went deaf as Mickey kept going on. I looked at Courtland. I didn’t even hide the horror on my face as I stared into his eyes that turned cold right in front of me which had me even more confused as my heart began to beat faster by the second.
“Mickey, please. Ain’t nobody thinking about babies but you. You already know, Johnni has crown fever. She’s not diaper ready. She’s about to start her period. We still synced up, right?”
I nodded my lie because life had been moving so fast these past couple months that I completely failed to realize I’d missed my period.
“Wait, since when did the dates change? We always started on?—
“Mickey, you can’t confirm the dates. You left the sister cycle circle a long ass time. Anyways, do you have all your necessary measurements?” Hollis jumped in, cutting Mickey off, helping me off the pedestal and dragging me back to the fitting room to let me have it.
“Please tell me you’re pregnant by Quincey.” I shook my head, then shrugged.
“What do you mean, you don’t know.”
“I don’t know if I’m pregnant and it wouldn’t be by Quincey.”
Would I even have changes to my body this early?
No, this isn’t possible.
It is if it happened that weekend at the club, Johnni!
“Hey, breathe, girl. We don’t know shit yet. Hell, you might just be getting thicker from the dick.”
“Hollis, not now. I’m freaking out and I fear I just took the last drink I’ll have for a very long time.”
She laughed in my face. “How about we not act like you were an alcoholic now. You’ll be okay, look at Mickey. You know what, you got a point. We lost our baby to the mommy club. Damn, I’ma be by myself for real.” I stepped out of the dress, hanging it back up while I looked at Hollis, deep in thought as if her life was the one about to change forever.
Knocks on the door stopped me from cussing her out.
“Alright, now I’m feeling a way. You two keep leaving me out and I don’t like it, so either come out or I’m coming in.” I looked at the lock that Hollis managed to turn, blocking the wrong intruder from just walking in.
Hollis pressed her lips together as her head shook.
“We’re coming out.”
“Not here. Let’s finish her day, then allow my drama to flow in. Stick to the period script until I figure out for sure how badly I’ve fucked up my life.” Hollis hesitated, letting me know she didn’t agree with my decision, but it was just that, mine.
“Ugh, y’all with the damn secrets and shit, whatever.” She huffed, taking the dress and leaving the fitting room first with me following, grabbing my basket from Mickey.
I walked out to Mickey talking to Courtland.
“Yeah, BK talked to him the other day. He sounded good, clearer than I’ve ever heard. Apparently, he’s working his way down the list of apologies and wanted to start with us. I told him that our secret wasn’t his to bear, so no harm, no foul,” Mickey said
“Naw, he should’ve still held it because it wasn’t his to tell. I’m glad he finally apologized for letting it out before y’all were ready though,” Courtland said.
“Yeah, and I’m sure some might even say the trust should be gone, but that’s the funny thing about secrets. They only work when no else is involved. Once we got our friends and families in on it, it was no longer a real secret, just a ticking bomb waiting to explode. I’m just happy it all worked out for us. Oh, speaking of Boss, Johnni, he did ask for your information? I told BK I would ask you before I gave it to him.” Mickey acknowledging me broke my gaze from Courtland who had yet to look at me and put my attention on her.
I frowned, wondering why he would want my number until Courtland spoke up.
