It was bigger than hers. Taking her time, she washed her hands and wiped the soil off her face. When she opened the door, it was to a pacing Kaelith. He stopped when he heard it creak open and inhaled deeply. The tension between her started bubbling. Awkwardly she scratched the back of her neck. What did he want to talk about?
"Are you hungry?" He asked out of concern.
"Is there something you wanna talk about?" she asked.
"I have something for you." Kaelith walked to the couch and that's when she noticed a Chanel bag sitting there. He grabbed the bag and walked to her before passing it to her. She blinked at the bag with utter confusion and thrill. What was it? She dared not to look inside.
"What is this?" The bag felt light in her hands. "A dress.”
"Adress?Forwhat?"Sheaskedwithaconfusedthrill.Thereweredozensofdressesinher wardrobe why did he bother to get her one?
"Yes, it’s your anniversary day after tomorrow, isn’t it?" He said with a straight face and jealous heart. He didn’t want to do this. But for the last time. Rafael begged him to let him meet Amara for the last time.
"What?!" she almost yelled when he let out a small chuckle.
"Rafael will be coming tomorrow." Rafael’s name left a bitter taste on his tongue. He hated this. All he wanted to do was take Amara somewhere where no one could find them. To whisk her in the embrace of oceans and breeze.
Kaelith expected to see a smile on her face, but when her lips lowered. He frowned.
"He is coming?" Her shoulders slumped, and her eyes down casted. She should be happy, ecstatic and dancing. But what was this inexplicable feeling? Why was she feeling as if….
Kaelith phone rang, pulling both of them from their thoughts. Amara got her clue and hugged the bag to her chest before walking out the door with a heavy heart.
Once she was gone, Kaelith picked up the phone.
"I did my part of the deal." Kaelith sensed a long pause. And then he heard Rafael’s weak voice.
"I get it… just two days, I’m not asking for much." The other line stilled before Kaelith heard his brother shuffling.
"You better keep your part of the deal, little brother, cause if you try to betray me, keep in mind what you have at stake," Kaelith said darkly. Rafael swallowed hard.
"I will not go back.”
CHAPTER 15
Rafael’s POV
My fingers curled painfully around the glass. The golden burgundy liquid burned my throat yet I couldn't stop consuming it. The burn helped tamper the shake of my thoughts.
"Are you sure about this, Rafael? You should think again." I lowered the glass with much more strength than intended. It clanked heavily on the tabletop. It was getting harder and harder to leash my self-control. After the night I confessed my sins to Kaelith, I could still hear his words lingering in my head.
'Divorce her. You do not deserve her.’
I curled my fingers and clenched my teeth.
"Yes, this is the only way I can keep her safe." Abigail’s eyes widened. I couldn't afford to lose her again; I wouldn't let that happen.
"Just because your brother threatened you, you’re divorced—" The man Jun hired to investigate replied.
"He did not threaten me!" I growled. My heart clenched at his words.
“Letting her go is not an option— “
“I cannot keep her too, Gail! I do not deserve her— “
“Who said that? Your brother? Who always wanted to take her away from you? Think Rafael, isn’t it going all too well?”
“Amara’s accident, her losing her memories, she is even staying with Kaelith, and now, divorce. Then what? What do you think will happen next, huh?”
