“Yeah.” Jack sounds a little winded.
“Find her.” I glance at the security cameras, aware that we’re always being watched or listened to. We don’t know how or by who. With our confessions last night, they know what Harper means to us.
“On it.” He hangs up.
I collapse on the couch and find the number for Logan Price. He picks up after one ring.
“Yeah.”
“Where the fuck is Ava?” I bite out, still upset that Harper’s ring is either malfunctioning or it can’t get a lock on her.
“She’s good, boss. Just sleeping off a hangover at Zoey’s. She kept complaining about going home alone and hanging all over Carter. So we packed her up and took her to Zoey’s.”
Part of my insides untwist. “Have her call her brother.”
“Everything okay, man? We’ve got this. We’re taking this shit serious. Ava’s going to be fine. We’re planning on picking up the girls at noon and taking them shopping or some shit.” Logan sounds serious.
“Make sure she calls Caden.” I run a hand through my hair.
“On it. I’ll put the phone in her hand myself.”
“Thanks.” I disconnect the call and glance around the empty house. There’s so much more life here than my home. Thinking about my house inevitably makes me think of my half-sister. Fuck.
Me:
You good?
Penny:
Staying with Nat
The three dots appear but then stop, like she wants to say more, but maybe doesn’t know what to say. Join the club.I’ve never had a sibling or anyone else to worry about besides myself and the guys. But being related to me means she’s in our enemies’ crosshairs.
Me:
Stay safe tonight
Penny:
Thx. You too!
I shake my head and put my phone in my pocket. Everyone that we need to worry about will be taken care of. This will be our chance to get away and spend some time with Harper, but we’ll also have a lot to go over.
The door in the kitchen opens and I turn, expecting Harper or her mom, but Eli walks in.
“You don’t knock?” I quirk an eyebrow.
He grins. “Jennifer isn’t here.”
“Not sure where they are.” I glance at my phone, but Jack hasn’t gotten back to me either.
“Did you check the app?” Eli has his phone in his hand and presses on it.
“I tried. It wasn’t picking her up.” I shove a hand through my hair, ready to pull it out.
“They’re at Starbuck’s.” Eli holds his phone out to me as proof.
I step forward and take his phone. Seeing that dot makes the storm inside me settle. I drop onto the couch and hand Eli his phone.
