Hawke

I’d just poured another shot of that whiskey, trying to figure out what the hell to make for dinner for a girl with more allergies than I could fucking count, when the screaming started.

“Hawke!” she screeched, the sheer panic in her voice kicking my wolf’s protective instincts into overdrive. “Hawke!”

It was all I could do not to shift on the spot. Bella and I bolted up the stairs, my heart pounding as I tried not to trip over the damn dog. When I got up there, I didn’t bother knocking—just barged right on through the bathroom door.

“What happened?” I growled, barely keeping the wolf on lock. “You okay?”

“I’m fine,” she said from behind the shower curtain, her tone downshifting from panicked to annoyed. “God. You scared me.”

“You’re screaming like you’re being attacked by a grizzly, andIscaredyou?”

“Hawke. There are no grizzlies in Colorado. Only black bears. And they’re all hibernating this time of year, and even if they weren’t, the chances of—”

“Maddie.” I shoved my hands into my hair, trying to keep my brain from exploding like a damn land mine. “What do youwant, woman?”

“I didn’t think you could hear me.”

“Well, I could.”

“Sorry. Don’t be mad, but… I kind of need a huge favor.”

I swallowed hard, my heart rate kicking up again for a whole new reason.

If you need someone to soap up those beautiful tits, sign me the fuck up right now…

“I know I said I only needed the one bag from the trunk,” she continued, “but I forgot something, and it’s in a different bag.”

I sighed into the steam billowing around me.Of course it is.

“It’s super important.”

Of course it is.

“I wouldn’t ask otherwise.”

Of course you wouldn’t.

She slid open part of the shower curtain and poked her head out. “Please, Hawke?”

Those baby blues stood out against the slate-gray tile like pieces of the Colorado sky in summer. Her hair was slicked back, showing off the delicate curves of her face—high cheekbones, a thin nose that turned up at the tip, right over those luscious lips. Her ears stuck out a little, which only made her all the more fucking adorable.

Water streamed down her face, and when she raised a hand to wipe her eyes, I caught a flash of bare shoulder and collarbone that called to some deep, primal part of my soul.

Everything in me wanted to fucking bite her—not just the wolf, but the man, too. I wanted to yank that curtain right off the rings, jump in there, grab that juicy little ass in my hands and slam her against the tile, claiming that hot, slippery flesh with a single thrust that would leave her begging and gasping…

“Hawke?”

“What is it?” I snapped.

“You… totally spaced on me.”

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, steam filling my lungs. “Imeant, what’s so important that you wanna send me back out in a blizzard to fetch it like a trained lapdog?”

“Just… it’s my… conditioner,” she said awkwardly.

“There’s shampoo and shit on the shelf in there. Use whatever you want.”
