“Ah, well, tell the owner thank you for me.” I blush, ignoring Eric’s weird aggression. I release myself from his tight grip and turn to him to see what the fuck is his problem.

His chest rises as he looks noticeably irritated. “Typical, Sienna. You are in the city for not even one full day, and you already have an admirer,” he grunts.

“Hardly, Eric. He is a friend of one of Nessa’s coworkers. He was just being nice.”

He rolls his eyes at my comment, taking a second to respond to me. “Yea, whatever you say,” he barks back.

Awkward silence begins to form between Eric and me, as I try to get Nessa’s attention so we can head out of here. I make eye contact with her, giving her the signal that I am ready. She finishes her conversation with the bouncer and gives him a kiss goodbye.

“Alright, I’ll see you when your shift is over,” I hear her shout over to Miles as she begins making her way to Eric and me.

Nes walks over, noticeably as surprised as I was to see Eric here.

“What, are you following us, weirdo?” she jokes.

“Very funny. I remember you said you and Sienna would be here tonight, and I was in the neighborhood, so—”

Vanessa stumbles, interrupting him, “Yea, ok. Listen, I need to get home and freshen up. Miles is meeting me back at the apartment in a little over an hour, so chop, chop.” She claps her hands, leading the way out of the bar.

“Ok, I’ll get an Uber for us,” I suggest as I reach for my phone to pull up the app.

But Eric grabs the phone out of my hand. “No need, I’ll drive you guys’ home,” he says, dangling a set of keys in his hand, along with my cell phone.

Vanessa, clearly drunk, laughs. “Ah, there is my cousin, the big, bad chauffeur,” she says with her back to Eric and me.

Annoyed, I rise to my tiptoes, trying to get my phone back from Eric, but he laughs, reaching his arm up higher so I can’t get it.

“Give it back, Eric,” I say, in no mood for whatever shit he is trying to pull.

This is exactly why I am done with him; he just doesn’t know how to be chill with me anymore. Sex complicated that for him.

He lowers his arm, handing me back my phone. I take it from him as I quicken my pace, following Nes to the entrance as Eric follows my lead.

The three of us make our way out of The Sandy Claws and I spot the black town car parked across the street. How Eric was able to find on-street parking by the bar is beyond me, but I’ll take it, because my feet are killing me from these damn heels.

We cross the street as Eric unlocks the car. I go to sit in the back with Nessa, but of course, she needs to bust my chops. “Ok, you two lovebirds can sit in the front together, I’m going to lay down in the back seat and take a power nap.”

Before I can protest, she is already sprawled out in the back seat.Great.

I get in the front seat next to Eric, hoping he won’t try to get an invite to spend the night with me tonight. Eric starts to drive and I’m relieved that he is quiet. It’s been a long day, and I need to sober up so I can prep for tomorrow.

The awkward silence breaks with Nessa’s loud snoring, which makes Eric and I both burst out laughing.

“That was quick.” Eric laughs, as he begins driving.

“Seriously. We are going to have fun waking her up. That girl can sleep through a hurricane,” I joke.

“I know, she has always been like that.” He smiles back at me. “So”—Eric clears his throat—“you ready to start tomorrow?” he asks as he runs a hand through his thick beard.

Ah, how can I forget having to work at the same place as Eric? I really hope this place is big enough, and given the fact that he is an intern, we won’t cross paths too often. But what’s weird is that I haven’t talked to Eric at all since last week. So, unless Nessa told him when I was starting, I don’t know how else he found out.

Just as I am about to respond to Eric, we startle as both of our phone’s buzz with incoming messages at the same time.

“Jinx, you owe me a blow job,” Eric jokes.

Smooth, Eric. Real fucking smooth.Absolute disgust rattles my expression as I roll my eyes at him. I am not one to shy away from a crude joke, but he isn’t joking, which makes it even more cringe worthy.

“Ha, good one,” I mutter, as I go to open my email.
