Should be easy, right?
Chapter 14
Clark – Three Days Later
I sigh as I walk into work. My feet already hurt, and the day hasn’t even started. It doesn’t help that my head is still scrambled.
He paid for me to attend college, Miles went behind my back and paid for me to go…
I rub my forehead. After he got back from church, after I let my anger loose on his father when I finally had some time to myself to just stop and think, instead of letting me question him, he kissed me. I was a goner.
I spent years refusing help with my education— from the club, my parents, even him. Yet, within a few weeks of him claiming me to my face, he turned my life upside down and gave me everything I have always wanted.
A career in nursing, a sense of family – him…
My head spins every time I remember handing him the divorce papers because now I feel like we’ve just done a one-eighty.
“Hey, did Drew get Willow alright this morning?” a tired voice asks that sends shivers down my spine, and I look up before locking eyes with ones I’ve fallen in love with.
“She did…” I say as I stop before Miles next to the central nursing desk, and Amber looks up between us, a sly smirk on her face.
Damn woman, I’m never going to hear the end of this now.
I check the time and see he’s on hour fourteen, and I ask, “Why are you still here?”
He sighs, “A few patients came in, I should be gone within the next hour though.”
I frown, not happy with his answer, but say nothing. He notices and asks, “Still want to kill me?”
I narrow my eyes at the man, which only makes him smirk.
“Why would she want to kill you?” Amber asks, butting in, and I give my husband a warning glare, which he ignores.
“I’ve managed to enroll her in college for the fall, she’ll be learning in-house and under you, I believe, Amber,” he says cockily, and I groan as Amber squeals in delight.
“Oh my god,” she says so excitedly, “When will she start following me?”
“In about a month,” Miles answers, and I shake my head at my husband.
“Don’t you have a patient to go see before you clock out?” I sass, and he grins wide.
“I do, but I like pissing you off as well,” he admits and I shove him slightly, making him chuckle as he wraps an arm around my waist and cups my cheek.
“We need a date, buttercup,” he murmurs, and my heart pounds at his words.
"We have a daughter," I remind him.
He hums, then says, "She can join us or stay overnight with Auntie Drew, Uncle Cage, and Angela."
I bite my lip, unsure. My head is still all over the place.
“Please,” he rasps, and I sigh but nod, causing a massive grin to overtake his face, and he kisses me in front of everyone on the floor, and I can practically feel Amber bouncing in her seat.
“Dr. White,” Dr. Lavish scolds, and Miles breaks the kiss while I roll my eyes, making him chuckle.
He kisses me again, then says, “Alright, buttercup, I’ll see you at home.”
I nod, and he yet again kisses me before turning to the livid doctor who snaps, “Kissing on the ward is inappropriate!”
