When I no longer hear Khan outside of the room and pull the door open, checking before I pull her back out and down the hallway to the stairwell.

When we make it to the bottom of the stairs, I look down at her and say, “Wait here, I’m going to go get the Jeep.” She nods her head as I move across the parking lot and into the garage.

It doesn’t take me long before I pull up outside of the door and she rushes across the sidewalk and hops in. Scrubbing my face with my hands as I pull up to a stoplight, Ella stares out the window, not saying a word. I can feel her sadness as we sit in silence. Neither one of us breaks it though because we both know that we each need this moment to process what the fuck we just sat in on. Instead, I reach over and clasp her hand with mine.

As we pull up to the clubhouse, I continue on the trail that goes around the grounds instead of heading through the gate, and she glances over at me. I don’t look at her until I pull over and she sighs.

“You okay?” I can’t help but ask her before the tears start to roll down her face. Reaching across the center console and pulling her close to me.

“He looked so helpless… I’ve never seen him like that before.” She whispers.

“Hey,” I pull back and look down at her, “he’s getting the best help that he can get. They’re going to make sure he’s back up in no time.” Then I kind of laugh as I look at her. “And if they don’t. Caroline fucking will.” She actually smiles for a second and a laugh falls out as I smirk to myself, being able to bring a smile out of her.

“Thank you, Axe.” She whispers, looking back up at me as I wipe the tears away from her face. Her eyes glancing up,catching mine, causing me to freeze in my place.
