Waking up, nothing hurts. But there’s a beeping. I don’t know where it’s coming from. I try to remember anything, but the only thing I can remember is going to sleep last night.
No, it wasn’t last night…It was at least 2 days ago, because yesterday I was in the Humvee.
“Oh yeah,” I laugh out to Mac, “is that why your girl always wants to say hey to me when you’re on the phone with her.”
“Fuck off, Axe.” He looks back at me, leaning over to take a swing, but I push myself as far away from the front seats as I can.
But that’s the last thing I can remember.
Opening my eyes, the room is bright and white. It seems almost surgical… Maybe sterile is the right word.
I can hear someone talking, but I’m not sure what is being said.
“Oh my god,” I hear a familiar voice, “You’re awake.”
“Mom…” I trail, shocked, as I look at her.
