…that’s a loaded question…

out the last few sentences of the paper that I have. “We’re going to be leaving in a bit if that’s alright?”

“Yeah, I’m almost done here.” Typing the last couple of lines in my document and saving it before I submit the assignment. Standing up, I leave the room, picking Eliza up as Lucy sighs and looks back at me. I can already see the water forming in her eyes.

“What’s wrong?” I ask her as I move over to her with Eliza in my arms.

“Nothing.” She shakes her head quickly and walks away.

“Lucy.” I hold my hand out, stopping her.

“Fine,” she pauses and turns around. “It’s just a lot. I wish I could do more. And fuck… seeing Caroline like that. It’s just… I’ve known her for over 10 years, and I’m not sure I’ve ever seen her cry.” I have heard that she broke down when she saw him. And again when they forced her to leave a couple hours.

“He’s terrible, isn’t he?” I whisper out, and she stops, looking at me and her mouth falls slightly open. I know she just did what everyone told her not to.

Don’t talk to Ella about Ash.

I roll my eyes at her response and walk out of the house, across the yard to Dax’s house.

“Ella,” Billie calls to me and smiles, but I don’t meet her jovial demeanor.

When the door opens later, I almost roll my eyes until Axe comes into the roombringingme ease, but I don’t because I’m still irritated. I’m playing with Liv as he walks closer.

“You okay?” he asks me and I just slowly nod my head. I’m curious why he keeps coming to check on me.

“Great. Fantastic.” I sarcastically say to him, causing him to smirk.

“Okay, you need help with anything?”

“Nope, got it all.” He nods his head before he sits down on the couch. “What are you here to babysit me?”

“Maybe.” He laughs.

“Great.” I roll my eyes before standing up and walking up the stairs to lay Liv back down. When I make it back downstairs, he’s gone though. Groaning, I internally hate myself as I glance up to the ceiling and then walk out to my car, looking for a book that I had left in it when I notice how it’s been cleaned out… thinking to myself who had to have done it I can’t help but smile. It had to have been Axe. No one else has really been here long enough to do something like this.

This little kind act makes me feel much better than I did when I snapped at him earlier.

“Hey man,” I hear Khan come through the receiver. “Do something for me?”

“Yeah, what’s up?” I ask him, and he hesitates.

“I know it may be asking a lot because it’s most of the day, but could you ride up with Ella, back to Palm Springs…It'sjust a long drive there and back, and I don’t really like her doing it alone. I guess she left some shit up there that she needs.”

“Yeah, no prob, Prez.”

“Thanks man, I owe you.” I mumble out something and hang up the phone.

Do I really want to make the 2-hour drive with her out there?

Not really, but… if I’m being honest, it’s not because of her. It’s mostly a ‘me’ thing. But I’ll never tell them no because they’re my family.

Pulling the Jeep up to Khan’s house, I look up to where Ella is walking out of Fury’s house.

“Hey,” I call to her as she walks over to her car, pulling up the Jeep next to her. As soon as she hears me, I watch a smile turn up on her face. “Want a ride?”

Leaning on the door through the window, she smirks over at me. “Are you trying to pick me up?”

I can’t help but laugh out loud and then, “Only if you know how to drive stick.” Slips out of my mouth before I can stop it.
