“How d’you know it was me? I’m just curious because you were very adamant that it was me as soon as I came downstairs.”
He laughs, “Pulled up the phone records. Saw the number that came up the most and typed it into my phone and your name came up.”
“Damn.” I just look over at him, shaking my head. “The one fucking thing I didn’t think of.” he laughs.
“Honestly, I knew it was you before I pulled the records. I saw how she looked at you.”
I watch as Ash is standing outside at the building, having been the one that Jake saw the least of, waiting to attack him. “He’ll never forgive me.” I tell Oz, causing him to sigh out.
“Ash is extremely stubborn. He’s very protective of her and believe it or not, that alpha tough-guy exterior is to cover up that he’s actually pretty sensitive.” I laugh out but he just nods his head. “I’m serious. He’s hurt. He’ll get over it, it will just take him a lot of time to do so.” I nod my head again as he nods forward. I watch as Khan walks up to Jake, talking to him. Ash comes in from the side and, with only one hit to the head, Jake goes down.
“We’re in.” Comes over the comms just a couple of moments later. Nodding to Oz before I pull the Jeep up, as he pulls the car out of the parking spot and follows behind me.
Almost outside of town there’s a small neighborhood… with fucking multi-million dollar houses. The same neighborhood that I came to with Ella the night I came out here from Vegas. That is where our man-of-the-hour lives. Tapping my breaks, I watch as the garage door opens and then I’m circling the block. Once I’m sure no one is following us, or has seen us, Oz and I pull into the garage as it shuts behind us.
“Pretentious bitch.” Ash mutters as he gets out of the car after Khan does, having to wait for one of them to move so that he can get out of the backseat. We all look over to him and he shrugs. “I mean, who needs some high priced German bullshit car…” he trails and I can’t help but laugh out as Khan glances over to me with a smirk on his face.
“Um, your wife?” I laugh out, speaking about Caroline’s sporty BMW. As Oz and I slip on the gloves.
“That’s different.” He mumbles, trying to conceal his own laugh.
“How is that different?” Khan laughs out, not letting this go just yet.
“Because she drives a lower-end Beamer, not a goddamn brand new 200 thousand dollar Porsche.”
“If you say so.” Oz laughs as I walk over and help Ash hoist Jake out of the car and carry him inside.
“Where to?” Khan asks.
“Basement.” I tell him as Ash and I carry his limp body over to the door. I nod towards the door as Khan opens it. We don’t really speak besides that and I don’t look up to see Ash’s stare because this is much more important than any sort of grief that we have with one another at the moment.
“How do you know where everything is?” Khan asks me, causing Oz to laugh out. We reach the bottom of the steps. “Fucking hell, Axe.” He mumbles as we look around the basement, in all its Dexter-ish glory.
“What?” I laugh, looking back at him.
“We cased the place. When he left this morning,” Oz nods to me.
“Yeah, came in and set up. I also disabled the security system. Erased whatever footage it had of us. Looped it around to show the last clip at the right timestamp.”
“How the fuck?” Ash looks at me, shocked.
“Ace showed me a little.” He nods his head. “Drop him.” We let go at the same time as his body flops to the ground. Reaching over, I cuff his hands around the pillar on the floor.
“Is it weird to you guys… or is it a little unnerving that this is a multi-million dollar house, and this basement looks like some shit out of a horror movie. You know, even if it was missing all the draped plastic.” I don’t respond to him, just finish tying up Jake before Ash finally turns to look at Oz. “What the fuck are we doing here?”
“Ash,” Khan looks at him, shaking his head.
“How do you know?” He asks him, still not knowing what the fuck is going on, not that Khan does either, but he has an idea.
“I don’t, well, not exactly.” Ash just looks over to him as if he’s grown another head. “What I know is that if the two of them were coming out here for him. There’s only one person it could involve.” I can physically see Ash’s jaw clench and unclench when he realizes what Khan is saying. “Wait, is he the guy she brought…” I just nod my head before I gesture to Khan to come stand with me.
The groan comes from in the middle of us as I stand behind Jake, so he can’t see me and the other three stand in front. “Who the fuck are you guys?” I almost want to laugh out because how did he briefly date Ella? But he isn’t even aware of what Oz looks like. “What the fuck do you want? Just take whatever. It’s fine. You can have it all.”
“We’re not here for your shit.” Ash bites out when Jake laughs. It’s unsettling and sets me a little on edge.
“Oh fuck, I know who you guys are. What did she say? What lies did she make up?” I stand back, not saying anything yet and convincing myself why blowing this motherfucker’s head off. Right here isn’t the best course of action.
“That girl doesn’t lie.” Ash bites at him through his still tightly clenched jaw.
