“Sounds good,” I said. “Evan and I are just driving around. He wants to go to his grave.”
Anson was quiet for a moment. “Really?”
“Yeah.” I glanced at Evan, who was staring down at his rose.
“Uh, OK, I guess. Call me if you need me.”
“I will. Stay safe, brother.”
“I will. Keep Evan sane, man. I worry.”
“Will do,” I replied before bidding him goodbye. I turned my attention back to Evan. “He said E didn’t have any new news from the detective Enzo hired.”
“Figures,” Evan muttered.
“Eventually, something has to give,” I said. “Rosalie is too smart a girl to let this go on for long. She’s strong. We made her stronger. Have faith, brother.”
“I do,” he murmured. “It’s what’s keeping me going.”
Fuck. Me too.
I stayedin my car per his request as Evan walked across the cemetery to his grave. I watched him stare down at it for a long time before he placed the rose on it and bowed his head.
Praying.
He was praying.
I looked away to give him privacy and went back to my emails.
I replied to a few and took a phone call from a client before I looked up and saw Evan wasn’t alone anymore.
E was there.

“Didn’t think I’d see you here,” I said, coming to stand next to Evan. He was the last person I expected to see out here.
I couldn’t see his expression because he had his gaiter and sunglasses on.
“Felt like I should pay my respects,” he said in that raspy voice of his.
“First time coming here?”
“It is,” he murmured.
I breathed out, really trying hard not to be an asshole to him. I kept telling myself that I wanted what was best for Rosalie. I didn’t think it was him, but I had to at least put in a bit of effort. Maybe we just got off on the wrong foot. Talking to Anson this afternoon made me realize that maybe I’d judged Evan too quickly. I agreed to try again, which made Anson appear relieved.
But it was probably him telling me that Evan saved Rosalie’s life. That he was there when she thought everything was over. If I didn’t like the guy, I at least respected what he’d done for her.
So I’d try. Just like I did with Klaus, because I knew it was a similar situation.
“I come here a few times a month. Once a month with the guys. Weekly alone,” I continued.
Evan didn’t say anything, but I didn’t expect him to. He wasn’t much of a talker, that was for sure.
“If you’d like, I can take you back to my place and introduce you to Cole and Enzo.”
