Peter looks at me contemplatively before leaning in and whispering, “I know it’s poor form for a professor to speak badly about a student, but he always seemed a little full of himself.”

I bark out a surprised laugh. “A little is putting nicely.”“I thought so. He gave that off that energy.”

I shake my head, remembering all of the red flags I ignored. The biggest being missing my birthday dinner because he bumped into a director in town and grabbed a drink with him.

And grabbed his dick too, I found out later.

“Yep, that’s him, alright.”

Peter leans in again. The fact that he’s whispering when it’s just the two of us and Sadie in the middle of the woods makes my heart swell. “He was also a very poor student. He almost failed my Classics class.”

“Well, that’s because he can barely read.”

This time, Peter is the one who barks out a laugh. “That seems like a necessary skill for an actor.”

“Meh. You’d be surprised. Does Keanu Reeves seem like a genius to you?”

Peter nods. “Point taken.”

“Okay, boys, I think this is the spot.” Sadie points to the creek's shore. The waterfall is in the background, and boulders border the shore. “I’ll try and position you so that we catch the fall, but I don’t want it to distract us from the two of you.” She points to one of the large boulders. “Dylan, could you sit there, and, Peter, let’s have you kneeling next to it.”

The two of us make our way to the boulder, and I’m instantly more at ease now that we’ve talked again. The awkward silence was killing me.

I also got to hear Peter laugh, and I have to admit, he’s got a really great laugh.

CHAPTER 07: PETER

My knee cracks as I kneel in position, looking up at Dylan, who is the epitome of youthful beauty.

Fuck. My. Life.

His gorgeous blue eyes look down on me, and his lips are curled into a sweet smile.

This is bad. Very bad.

My heart pounds as I look up at him. The waterfall lulls me into a state of lust, and my breathing accelerates.

Angela was dead wrong. This doesn’t make me feel better at all. All I want in the world is to tell Dylan how gorgeous he looks sitting on this boulder, but I know I’d make a fool of myself. He’s used to guys like Garry.

Or was it George?

Anyway, he’s used to hot young studs with blonde hair and muscles.

“Okay, this is great, guys. Dylan, keep doing what you're doing. Peter, can you cheat your head to me a little bit? I’m just going to set the reflector up so I catch some light for your faces.”

“Are you getting wet?” Dylan asks. “Your knee is on the shore, right?”

I look down and realize it’s definitely wet, and my pant leg is definitely going to be soaked. “I guess I’ll be kneeling for the rest of the shoot or strategically placed behind these giant rocks to hide my wet knee.”

Dylan chuckles and cocks his head to the side. “Do you mind if I ask why you’re doing this? I’m getting some free headshots. Are you? Thinking about making an appearance onstage?” he asks with a waggle of his brows.

“Oh, God, no. I’d be a terrible actor. My best friend, Angela, convinced me to sign up.”

“Does Angela know Saide?”

“No, she saw the posting for models on a bulletin board in her favorite cafe. It was mainly to cheer me up. She thinks I’ll feel… Well, it’s not important. It’s a boring story.”

Dylan looks over at Sadie, who is still setting up the shot. “We’ve got time.”
