I sigh, scratching the back of my neck. “I was quite down after my recent breakup. I think Angela thought being a “hunky model,” as she put it, would make me feel better.”
“I’m sorry about your breakup.”
Me too.“Thank you. It was kind of a shock, but what’s done is done.”
“Do you mind if I ask how long you guys were together?”
“Ten years.”
His eyes widen, and his mouth falls open. “I’m so sorry!”
I shake my head. Poor Dylan doesn’t need to be dragged into my dramatic breakup. “I appreciate that.”
Dylan looks out for a moment before turning back to me and saying, “Well, she’s right.”
My head falls to the side, confused. “I don’t think I follow.”
“Angela was right. You do look like a hunky model.”
If I weren’t already on the ground, I would have fallen over.
“Alright! This is perfect. You guys look awesome. Keep looking at each other just like that.”
CHAPTER 08: DYLAN
The camera clicks, and I fall into Peter’s beautiful brown eyes. They’re a light brown, and it almost looks like gold flakes surround the pupils. Up closer, I can see the smattering of freckles on his face, and it makes me want to lean in and kiss one.
His body is actually jacked. He always wore an oversized cardigan to class that did nothing to flatter his body, but with a form-fitting button-down on, I can see how big his arms are.
Is this weird? Should I be ogling my professor?
Fuck it. Hewasmy professor. Hell, my disgusting high school musical director married our lead inGuys and Dollsright after she graduated. This is nothing compared to that.
I feel awful about his breakup, because it’s clear he’s very hurt by it, but I’d be lying if I wasn’t kind of happy when he said he was single.
But who am I kidding? He wouldn’t be into me.
I’m a 23-year-old idiot who works atTGI Friday’sfor Christ’s sake. He’s a tenured professor who did his dissertation on Sarah freaking Kane!
“These are great!” Sadie calls out. “Let’s have you both leaning against the rock. Try to cheat your bodies out to me, but keep looking at each other.”
I hop off the rock, and Peter stands, brushing off his pants.
“Oh shit!” Sadie yells. “I should have placed something under your pants so you wouldn’t get wet. I wasn’t thinking.”
“It’s okay, you’re a one-person show out here,” Peter replies.
“I could shoot you from the waist up, but then we lose a lot of the pretty background.”
Sadie stands there, nibbling on her nail with her eyes squinted. Suddenly, she snaps her finger and says, “I’ve got it. Peter, hop on the rock, and Dylan, sit next to him. We’ll drape your leg over Peter, and that will hide the wet mark. Are you two comfortable with that?”
Peter and I look at each other. His expression is unreadable, but I’m more than happy to sit on his lap if that’s where this is going…
“Fine by me,” I reply with probably too much enthusiasm.
“Sure, that works,” Peter adds.
“Excellent. I promise this will be worth it. These photos already look incredible, and the two of you on the rock with this background will be so romantic.”
