Chapter 9

-:- CHAOS -:-

Victoria steps into the kitchen as I’m plating the pancakes I’ve made. She certainly looks impressed, I think to myself.

“Morning, Vicky. Take a seat. I have pancakes and coffee for you. Pain meds and water on the table ready for you, too.”

“Good morning and thank you.” Victoria takes a seat, takes the meds with a swallow of water and then has a sip of coffee.

“We need a new couch, or I’ll sleep with you because that old couch is a nightmare to sleep on. My back was screaming this morning when I decided to give in and get off the fucking thing,” I grumble.

Victoria doesn’t comment on the sleeping arrangements part of the situation, but she has something on her mind from the blush that flows up her cheeks.

Victoria gives a little cough, then speaks, “I rent the apartment fully furnished, so the couch has to stay. Anyway, what are you doing today? Any plans?” I know she has asked that so it changes the subject of sleeping arrangements.

“I want us to have a conversation. I’ll tell you about myself and you can tell me more about yourself.” I place a plate in front of Victoria, and she doesn’t take but a minute to dig in.

Victoria’s phone rings, and she quickly grabs it from the counter where she’d left it last night. Answering it immediately, I hear her say, “Bethy, are you okay?”

“Yes, but I’m running. I have the emergency funds I saved, and I left everything behind. I only grabbed the small weekender I packed with you before you left.” Victoria has put the call on speaker so I can hear what is being said.

“Make your way to me. Keep moving in different directions, not straight to me. Is Art after you?” Victoria asks and closes her eyes when the feeling of panic seems to overwhelm her. “Did you check for tracking bugs?”

“The Jeep had one under the hood, but I left it because I wasn’t taking the Jeep anyway. I even left my watch and jewelry because I didn’t know if any of that would be bugged. As I said, all I have is the weekender we packed, and the envelope with the emergency funds.”

“Okay, Bethy. Don’t let anyone see the envelope. If you need money, take some out when you are in a restroom. That way, nobody will see it and then mug you for it.” Victoria rubs the back of her neck, then seems to have a bright idea. She looks at me and sees I’m obviously listening. “Chaos, can you get my friend, Bethy? Or get someone to get her?”

Nodding, I hold out my hand for the phone. “Bethy, this is Chaos. Give me all the information you can, and I’ll make sure you are picked up and brought here.”

I get the information I need and then close out the call. I take out my phone and contact Wings, giving him the information I have, and he agrees he’ll fetch Bethy. I give him Bethy’s contact details and turn to Victoria.

“Wings is going to get Bethy and won’t let anything stop him. She’ll be with us soon, be confident in that knowledge.”

Sitting with Victoria as I’d planned, I open up about myself.

“I was in the service, something I never speak of. What happened, happened, and nothing can change any of it. I am more than happy that my team brothers are with me now and we all get to live our lives.” I swallow to bury some of the feelings that I don’t want to surface. “I can easily admit that I love being a club brother since being here with the MC. I love working at the range and helping anyone who needs it. On the whole, my life is good, but I’ve messed around with too many women, and I hope you can see past that.”

“We don’t know each other, Chaos. You telling them at the hospital I was your girlfriend was a nice thing for you to do. I understand that, and I really do like the people who are coming to see me. They are great fun and I can see they love you dearly. As for the previous women in your past, well they have nothing to do with me. Unless they get in my face that is, then it’s a different thing.” I give Chaos a serious look, then continue. “Can I ask if you are serious about us wanting to get to know each other?”

“Of course, I am. I want to know all about what happened that day. Then your past because I know you are running, but I want to know about your family, your history.” I sit closer and take her hand. “I think you are special. I love everything about you I’velearned so far, but I agree we need to know each other better. Can we start that now?”

Victoria looks at me and smiles, “Okay, let’s do that.”

I explained a little about my service years and about the range. How I came to the MC and my life in general. It’s basic at best, but I’m mostly a what you see is what you get kinda guy.

“I would like to visit the range. I’m not a novice when it comes to firearms and would like to improve my skills,” Victoria adds, and I give her a huge smile.

“I can help you. Winter will butt her nose in I’m sure, because she teaches most of the women from the club.” I grin at her right before shocking her. “As far as the club is concerned you are my woman, my Ol’ Lady, which is the same as wife. You will be respected and protected. I’m sure Kya will contact you soon and have you in the girl gang. Oh, she’ll ask if you are getting a bike or a trike, too.”

Victoria blinks, then grins, which turns into a huge smile. “Well, I can ride a bike but not sure I can afford one at this time.”

“If you want a bike, I’ll get you one.” I don’t have to think twice about it. My woman wants a hog, she’ll get one.

“No, I’ll earn it. I have money. I just don’t know if I can get it without someone noticing. I’ll get Delta and Specs to check if anyone other than me has eyes on my accounts. I don’t want to risk touching them until I’m sure.”

I give Victoria a look that says I’m going to look into it. “I’m going after this fucker. He’s done enough damage.” I giveVictoria’s hand a squeeze. “I need to get to speak to some of the brothers. Will you be okay? Jack will be here soon to sit with you.”

“Yes, Jack is lovely. He is easy to spend the day with. I think Nyx said something about coming to visit.” Victoria gives me a huge smile.
