I’ll let Fefe hang around for a while. A devilish smirk hit my lips.

Nico threads our fingers and leads me downstairs.

As we move through the throng of people, all eyes seem to follow us. Maybe no one’s ever seen Nico hold a woman’s hand in public.

He keeps me close, as if he’s determined not to lose sight of me.

Nico tugs me toward the dance floor. Sherese meets my gaze as she rests an arm on the guy’s shoulder while moving to the beat. A smile lifts her lips.

I grin, then lock eyes with Nico. We melt into each other, dancing through three songs. I’ve never danced with him at a party before. It feels wonderful.

Sometime later, Nico leads me to the buffet table.

“Jenny, are you enjoying yourself?”

“I am.” Her brows lift. “You left with Fefe but return with her.” Jenny’s eyes roam my body.

“She’s not built like Fefe,” Jenny points out.

“Jenny, my name is Serenity. I’m Nico’s ex-girlfriend.”

Nico’s pink lips form a thin line in irritation at my answer.

“We have been seeing each other for years. I admit I get jealous of women who flirt and fuck Nico. But just so you know, Fefe’s paying for the mean things she said to you earlier.”

Tears well in her eyes. “Really?”

“Yes. Nico and I hate fat-shamers.”

She throws her arms around my neck, then loops her arms around Nico’s waist. Jealousy creeps in a little, but I control it. I understand she’s genuinely appreciative.

“Thank you both,” she says before stepping away.

Nico grabs two plates and loads them with food.

“Nico, give me a moment.”

He nods.

From across the ballroom, two of my bodyguards keep a watchful eye as I make my way toward my friends.

“Girl, are you okay?” Vi asks.

Laneesha laughs softly. “She’s good. She’s got that just-been-fucked-well glow.”

We all laugh together.

I rub the back of my neck. “Nico took care of me.”

The girls cheer and bounce in place at my admission.

I catch Miff’s attention. He approaches.

“What’s up, Serenity?”

“When my friends are ready to leave, I need them flown back to Creekwood campus.”

“The helicopter’s on standby.” He glances toward the girls.
