The man will literally throw away his soul to get to me, and I admire that kind of dedication.

Xavier immediately comes to me and inspects my thigh.

“It’s just a scratch.”

He shakes his head. “Orion, grab the supplies.”

Orion goes into my bathroom and steals my box of bandages from my first-aid kit and brings it back while I roll my eyes.

“Honestly, this is not necessary.”

Xavier rolls off the bandage and wraps it around my thigh. “Yes, it is.”

My brows furrow. It’s almost like he cares more about me than I do, which is odd. I never really thought anyone cared that much about what happened to me. My friends? Maybe. But when push comes to shove, I doubt they’d be there in a moment of severe pain.

He looks up at me with those precious puppy eyes, and it unfurls the coils wrapped around my heart so tightly that I’m momentarily taken aback.

“I’m not going to—”

“I know,” he interjects. “I’m doing this because I want to.”

“I never asked.”

“You don’t have to,” Orion adds, handing Xavier the tape to tie it all up. “We do what’s necessary to save you.”

“Why do you two care so much about what happens to me?”

“Yeah, why do you?” Detective Foley says, and we all turn our heads in annoyance.

I almost forgot he was here and that he stabbed me.

“She’s a killer,” he rasps.

“Aren’t we all?” Orion muses, chuckling.

But Foley doesn’t seem at all amused and jerks around to free himself. He looks so sexy all tied up and at my mercy.

“Better take care of that before he tries to end our lives,” I tell them.

“On it,” Orion says, and he swiftly grabs my bag and pulls out a metal chain that he wraps around Foley’s wrists as well as the heating unit. “Good luck trying to escape now.”

“Fuck you,” Detective Foley spits.

Orion punches him in the nose so quickly it’s barely visible, but Detective Foley’s yelp makes me grin. “Oops, slip of the finger.”

More blood runs down Foley’s nose, but Orion ignores it and comes back to me instead.

“Good boy,” I say.

“I aim to please,” he replies.

“Might have to get that checked out by a doctor later,” Xavier mumbles to himself as he finishes up the bandages.

I swiftly move off the bed. “Nonsense. I’m fine, look.” I walk a few steps, ignoring the pain. “See? Perfect.”

Xavier focuses his ire on Detective Foley. “You did this. I should cut off your fingers for touching her.”

“Now, now, don’t be so hasty. I still need those fingers,” I say.
