Forgot his phone, my ass.

I needed to talk to him, but the conversation was definitely not safe for work. I would just have to keep my distance for the night and talk to him in the car before hiding out in the bedroom. Or it could blow over before then.

I was hoping for the latter, but I wasn’t counting on it.

Moving toward the server station, I came to a second abrupt halt in as many minutes.

A blender. Not a dinky home one, either.

If I hadn’t already pieced together the why, the curvy glasses that now lined the shelf beneath would’ve made it clear.

He’d gotten me what I needed for piña coladas.

Never mind, I need to talk to him now.

I walked to the office just as he was stepping out.

“Can I talk to you?” I asked.

He barely slowed as he turned toward the kitchen. “After pre-shift meeting.”

Damn.

It was only fifteen minutes, but those fifteen minutesdragged. I barely got anything else done because I kept looking up at every footstep.

Thankfully, the pre-shift meeting was fast. But when I pulled my focus from Kodie and the burger special he was sampling, Rhys was gone.

Double damn.

More embarrassment crept into my head to further ruin my mood.

The man buys you paper umbrellas, and you thank him by defiling his bed.

As badly as I wished I could retreat to my spot behind the bar and hope it all went away, I was an adult. It was a conversation that needed to be had. I wouldn’t run from it.

It was a decision that I almost instantly regretted when I neared his office and saw him waiting in the open doorway.

Leaning up against the jamb.

With his arms crossed.

If he was in just loose shorts, it would’ve been exactly like the night before.

Just somehow even more awkward since he would be shirtless at work.

“I—Oh. You’re here,” I finally stammered.

His brow arched. “You said you needed me.”

Ain’t that the truth?

“The wordtalkwas thrown around,” he added when I just stood there, my brain fritzing out.

“Right.”

He gestured into his office.

“Right,” I repeated on a whisper as I moved into the room.
