“Kate,” I said like an exhale.
My forehead dropped to hers.
“And as you know, I have a very vivid imagination,” she finished.
Don’t go.
Stay with me.
We can stay here in this moment forever.
But even as I thought about it, I didn’t want it. I wanted her, but not this city or this imaginary break from real life.
“I want you to have everything you’ve ever dreamed of,” I settled on.
“I’m not even sure what that is anymore.” Her gaze moved over my face. “We don’t have to worry about any of that tonight. There are so many other things we could be doing.”
I exhaled sharply, trying to keep my composure. “We don’t have to do anything.”
“I think two years is plenty of time to decide I want this, thank you very much.” She pressed a closed-mouth kiss to me. “Let’s not waste the time we have. Plus, I’m dying to get out of this dress.”
I groaned.
The time we had. This would end. After which, we’d go thousands of miles in different directions.
I let out a slow and shaky breath before I cupped the back of her head and brought her mouth to mine. I kissed her deeply until she melted into me. Until that tension was gone, and she pressed herself against me like she had in the club.
I broke our kiss to stare into her eyes. “Let’s go to bed,” I said.
She swallowed but let me help her hop down from the bar. She walked backward into the massive bedroom, never taking her eyes from me.
“This isn’t going to be quick.” I prowled toward her.
“Oh, no. My schedule is so packed,” she said dryly.
“I’ve been fantasizing about this night for years. You’re not getting any sleep.”
She smirked and walked backward until her knees hit the bed, and she sat down on the edge. “You say that like a threat,” she said with a breathy tremor to her voice.
“It’s a promise.”

Kate
Charlie walked away.
In the movie of my mind, sound effect tires screeched to a halt.I’m sorry. What?
“You’re going the wrong direction,” I said as he retreated to his closet to dig around in a drawer. There was no possible way I misread this situation.
“This is just the start of my plan,” he said. He came back out and tossed a soft flannel shirt at me. “Here. Put that on.”
I blinked. “Charlie, I thought less clothing was preferable here?”
He shook his head and turned around, holding his phone up with a goofy, excited smile.
“Uh,” I said. “Listen, I’m pretty open-minded in the bedroom but with your fame, maybe pictures …”
