“Can I come?” asked Felix, his eyes wide with excitement.

“Sure, we’ll all go out once your leg is better.”

“Great.”

Drew started rummaging around in one of the food bags we’d brought, pulling out a protein bar and opening it. “How long have you guys been here?”

Freddie held her hand out for one of her own, catching it as Drew threw her his, followed by another one to Cooper.

“About thirty minutes, not long before you guys got here.”

“Has anyone else been in?”

She shook her head. “No, not since we arrived. Coop said Coach and the doctors were here earlier for an assessment though. Jas and Wolf will come as soon as they figure out how to leave Florence with the grandparents, and I guess the rest of the guys will turn up at some point.”

Drew looked at Felix. “Clevs, how was the assessment? What did they say?”

Felix’s glazed eyes lifted to where the question came from. “Who?”

“Coach and the team docs?”

His face dropped in confusion. “Coach was here?”

Drew turned back to Cooper, his eyebrows raised in question.

“Dude, he’s pretty out of it. You won’t get much from him.”

“Have you seen Molly? Super Creep not sniffing around?”

Freddie shuffled her pillows around again as Cooper shook his head. “Who?”

“Some fucking perv doctor who kept staring at Molly’s ass while she was talking to us last night. He was so weird. You should have seen his face when Coop called him out, it was so fucking funny,” Drew snorted.

She scrunched her nose up. “Sounds gross.”

“Yeah, he was.”

“Did I have some pervy doctor operate on me?” asked Felix indignantly.

Drew turned back to him. “No, I got the impression he was just a cling-on. Molly didn’t seem to know why he was in the room.”

He threw his head back laughing. “Cling-on, that’s funny.”

“Someone needs to record this for prosperity,” muttered Cooper under his breath.

The door opened and in walked a doctor wearing a white coat with a stethoscope around her neck, tight curls bouncing on her shoulders. Even if her name hadn’t been embroidered on her left breast pocket, I would have known who she was. With the same amber colored eyes and dark hair, she was a much smaller female version of Cooper. Although where Cooper always seemed to be scowling, her face exuded cheerfulness.

“Molly! Molly’s here, everyone. I mean, Doctor Marks,” Felix giggled, waving his spoon around as though conducting an imaginary orchestra.

Cooper lifted Freddie’s legs off him and stood up to hug her, followed by Drew who’d moved me from his lap but kept hold of my hand.

“Hey, Mol. I want you to meet Emerson.”

She pulled me into a big embrace. “Oh God, I’m so excited to meet you! Freddie told me they’d found you. I’m so happy you guys managed to work it out. It’s awesome!”

She clapped her hands together in unadulterated glee. If she wasn’t in orthopedics, she’d have made a great pediatrician. And she might have looked like Cooper, but that was where it stopped. I could never imagine him being so excitable.

“We have to go out soon or go over to Freddie and Coop’s for drinks, because I want to hear all about it.”
