Off to find her.
My love.
My future.
My soulmate.
Chapter 23
Ipicked up a stone and threw it in the water before finding another one, kicking it along the beach. The waves were crashing hard against the shore, sprays of salty mist hitting my face and mixing with my hot, angry tears.
I pulled the hood on my jacket back up, trying to stop the wind from whipping my hair around. It was going to take a bucket load of conditioner to remove the tangles as it was.
Stupid wind.
Stupid beach.
I kicked another stone.
I reached into my pocket to grab my phone, momentarily forgetting I didn’t have it.
Fuck’s sake.
Didn’t have my phone, didn’t have my job.
I screamed frustration into the air. I was seconds away from jumping up and down like a toddler. I’d been so fucking angry and run out in such a hurry I hadn’t noticed it on the kitchen counter. I was lucky Drew had left his coat in the car because I hadn’t picked that up either.
But now I couldn’t listen to music, couldn’t call my mom, couldn’t call Mallory… couldn’t even buy a hot chocolate.
So yeah, this day was sucking balls.
My chin trembled again and I tried to sniff up the lump that seemed to be permanently stuck in my throat, but it didn’t work. Even driving for an hour to get here, sobbing to depressing as fuck emo music hadn’t dislodged it.
The only saving grace of rushing out and forgetting my phone was that I didn’t have it to obsess over the horrible things that had been written about me.
See those horrible pictures of me one more time.
I was never kissing with tongue again - at least in public.
I don’t know how the boys did this on a daily basis; just stood back, defenseless, at the mercy of the press, while they wrote what they wanted and called itentertainment news.
Although in Jupiter’s case, he usually brought it on himself.
THISwasn’t even true.
That was the worst part. People believed the lies. And now I didn’t have a job because of them. Only Ashley and Mikey had checked in on me, asking if I was okay.
I shoved my hands forcefully into my pockets. What the fuck was I going to do?
I wasn’t equipped to be a woman who stayed home and waited for her husband to come back. I’d worked too hard.
Would Drew even want me to be?
What would I do with myself while he was traveling?
Another stone was aggressively kicked, sand flying everywhere as it hurtled into the water.
I brushed away another angry tear that fell. I didn’t have a job. Everything I’d worked so hard for, the career I’d built had been snatched away in a matter of hours.
