Six nights. Six fucking nights I’d been having it.

Six nights I’d been feeling it on the tip of my tongue, tasting it, touching it. Six nights I’d smelled that clean laundry scent, felt those cherry lips, seen those warm caramel eyes.

My fingertips running along skin so soft it was palpable.

It was tangible.

And it was more than a dream.

I scrubbed my hands down my face, blinking my eyes open, trying to get used to the darkness. Why was it so dark? It normally wasn’t this dark.

I reached for my phone. Three seventeen a.m., and still no message from Molly.

What the fuck had I done?

I groaned and shut my eyes again, trying to get back to my dream, trying to figure out what I was dreaming about.WhoI was dreaming about.

A series of loud sneezes erupted from somewhere, scaring the shit out of me and causing my leg to jolt from the movement. My teeth gritted together.

Fuck.That hurt.

And where did it come from?

I moved myself to sitting, squinting through the dark until I could make out a lump on the couch. I reached for the button by my bed, switching on a low light.

I squinted. I blinked. And blinked again.

Molly.

Molly was fast asleep on the couch, curled up with a blanket pulled over her.

What the actual fuck?

I stared at her, breathing peacefully, her features soft, her big ringlets falling across her face. I watched her rubbing the sneeze from her nose, wondering how the fuck she didn’t wake herselfup with them, but there she was, still sleeping soundly. To be fair, I’d seen Molly fall asleep a lot. If she wasn’t on call, there could be an earthquake and she wouldn’t wake up.

I turned the light off and slunk back down into my bed.

I closed my eyes before opening them again a second later.

What was she doing here?

Is this what she’d been doing every day? Avoiding me when I was awake then watching over me when I slept?

I sat back up, turning the light on.

I was going to wake her up.

Actually, maybe I shouldn’t. She was probably really tired.

No, I was going to. I wanted to know. I had a right to know. Plus, I was pissed at her.

“Molly.”

I waited. But she didn’t stir.

“MOLLY!”

Nothing. Yup, I was definitely pissed. Who did she think she was, sneaking in and sleeping on my fucking couch? I picked up a plastic water cup from the side table and threw it at her. It hit her on the shoulder and I watched it bounce onto the floor. She flinched.
