Her shoulders dropped in defeat. “Fine. What do you want, Felix?”

It was now or never, and I needed to be honest with her about every thought that had consumed me for the past month.

“I want a chance to prove myself, Molly. I deserve that. I want to be good enough for you.”

Her expression told me that she didn’t believe a word I was saying. “Why? You only ever saw me as Cooper’s sister.”

“Molly…”

“You’re only saying this because I fixed your leg.”

Because I knew her almost as well as I knew myself, I hadn’t expected this to be simple, and also knew that there was probably a list of excuses in her head for why this couldn’t be real. But she wasn’t going to dissuade me.

“Don’t. Do not tell me how I feel! This has nothing to do with that, and we’ve already established you’re a terrible nurse and terrible at post-op patient care. Molly, you didn’t come and see me once. You’re supposed to be one of my best friends. Do you know how much that hurt? The one person I wanted to see not only wouldn’t come, but actively went out of her way to avoidme, and still is! So no, there’s no way I want to give us a chance because you fixed my leg.”

“Felix…”

“Molly, please let me try.”

“Try what?”

I had to make a decision. One that could either be the best - or worst - of my life. Because either way, things were about to change. Forever. But what was life without a little risk? I’d never played it safe and I wasn’t about to start now.

I moved over to her as slowly as I had before. Slower even, making sure she didn’t freak out or startle, but she was glued to the spot. I watched her breathing turn shallow almost imperceptibly as the pulse in her neck kicked up, her nerves as visible on the outside as mine felt on the inside. And somehow, that helped soothe me, calm me.

And suddenly, I knew this was right.

Wewere right.

I reached out and lifted one of her thick curls away from her shoulder, twisting it around my finger like a corkscrew, in the way I’d seen her do so many times.

“I’ve dreamed about our kiss every night, but it’s all in pieces. I can’t remember it, and it’s all I want to remember. What was our kiss like, Mol? Tell me.”

Her eyes flared golden, her chest heaving. “Why are you so close to me?”

I ran my thumb along her jaw, brushing her soft cheek. I’d never touched her like this before, never realized how soft her skin was. “Because I can’t kiss you from across the room, and I want to know what it was like so I can remember for real.”

“You… you’re going to kiss me?”

Her chest stopped moving.

“Breathe, Mol. You need to breathe.”

“I can’t, you’re too close.”

“Get used to it, because I’m not leaving.”

I propped my crutch against the table, balancing my weight on my good leg, and cupped her cheeks in both my hands. I could feel her pulse hammering against my fingertips. Or it could have been mine. Her eyes dropped to my lips as I leaned in closer to her, and she ran her tongue along her own in a subconscious response.

I dipped down, and what little air remained between us crackled with electricity as I finally pressed my mouth to hers, soft and plump and fitting perfectly to me, as though we’d been made for each other. Teasing her lips with mine, she parted slightly, allowing me access, and as she relaxed into me, my tongue started its journey of rediscovery. With every stroke against hers, familiarity crept in like muscle memory.

I’d never really been into kissing much. While I liked a good kiss, I was always more interested in the end goal, to where the kiss was leading and getting my mouth elsewhere. But this was the polar opposite of any kiss I’d ever experienced. Like I’d been handed a dictionary and the meaning of a kiss had suddenly all become clear. This wasn’t a frantic kiss where clothes were being shredded; this was a kiss to end all kisses. A kiss of discovery. A kiss of beginnings, a start to everything… and I could feel my anxiety melting away. This was a kiss I was supposed to be in. A kiss that was meant to be. A kiss I was struggling to comprehend why I hadn’t known about it before.

Was this a kiss I could have been having fortwelvefuckingyears?

She groaned against me as I moved further into her, wanting to devour her, to get as close to her as possible. As though they had a mind of their own, my hands dropped to her ass, palming it before I lifted her up to sit on the table so I could shift between her legs as she automatically wrapped them around my waist. All without our connection breaking.

Her fingers tickled through my beard to the base of my neck and pushed up into my hair, shooting shivers down my spine in a way I wanted to her repeat again and again as they hit me straight in my dick, which was growing by the nanosecond.
