My dick and I hadn’t been spending much time together lately. The pain in my leg, along with the meds, was as effective as ice water poured directly on my libido. The only times I’d jerked off had been to the memory of the kiss but, like I had, he’d now realized the memory of it compared to what we were experiencing right in this second was as vastly different as seeing your first pair of tits was to losing your virginity.

And he wanted to come out and play.

I pulled back from her as he punched against the solid marble of the table, as if testing which was harder. On that point, I wasn’t quite sure, but I knew neither of us was ready to find out. I shifted her further back, so she wouldn’t accidentally feel how much I wanted her and flee in panic.

Because I did want her.

More than I’d ever wanted anyone.

I’d never seen anyone so fucking beautiful. Her face was flushed, her pink lips swollen, and her chest was rising in bursts as though she’d only just remembered to take a breath. I rested my forehead to hers as we calmed our breathing and our pulses slowed.

“Oh my God.”

Her chest was still heaving as she gazed up at me, her eyes heavy with lust. “That was…”

But she couldn’t finish her sentence, because like me, she had no words to describe it. It was indescribable.

I pushed a lone curl away from her smooth forehead, capturing it between my fingers, running my thumb across her brow, the tension she’d been holding before was now gone. “Is that what it was like?”

“No, this was better.” She shook her head, looking up at me softly. “Lex?”

I smiled, she hadn’t called me Lex since I’d been in hospital. I don’t even know at what point over the years that she started with it, but it was a name only she had ever called me.

“Yes?”

“Now what?” She looked up at me, her eyes searching for something in me, for an answer I didn’t yet have. Because I knew she was feeling how I was; our relationship had fundamentally changed forever.

“I don’t know, but we’ll figure it out.”

“What about Cooper?”

I’d been trying not to think about him, not think about the very clear code I’d broken. But right now I gave zero fucks, because I wasn’t giving this up for anything. And Coop would just have to deal.

“I’m not sure yet, but I promise I’ll sort it out.”

Her face dropped slightly and I could see nerves and insecurity creep into the softness of her features.

“Mol?”

She looked at me, her eyes sparkling as she did.

I smirked down at her. “Kiss me again.”

She grinned and pushed her fingers back through my hair, pulling me onto her once more. And once more, I lost myself in the wonder of how I’d waited so long to discover this perfect kiss.

Chapter 29

Iopened my locker and threw my bag and coat inside before stripping out of my clothes to change into scrubs and the best pair of sneakers I’d ever seen in my life. That could easily be the best present I’d ever had. One of them, anyway.

I traced my fingers over the lightning bolts.

When Felix had given them to me yesterday, I’d almost started crying at how cute they were, because even for an almost thirty-three year old orthopedic surgeon, after he’d spent nearly an hour kissing the life out of me, any handle I’d had on my emotions had been snapped clean off.

And it had nothing to do with the fact that I hadn’t had sex in a couple of months. Because, oh my God, the kissing. And his tongue. And his hands. I wanted them everywhere. Even through the many layers of winter clothing I’d been wearing yesterday, they’d heated up my body better than any thermals, his kisses travelling through my veins, warming them like a fine single malt. It was a good job I always kept a clean change of underwear in my locker, as my panties had been soaked through by the time I’d returned to the hospital.

Soaked.

I ran my stethoscope charm along its chain. Felix had always been good at presents, everything he’d ever given me was thoughtful and personal, filled with effort and steeped in twelve years of friendship.
