“Oh, there definitely are, but you’re clearly immune to them all. Least now we know why all our attempts to set you up with one crashed and burned.”

I laughed and shook my head. “I wondered how long this would take.”

“Yep. Hope you have some time to spare, because you have a lot of news to spill, young lady.”

I looked at the clock on the wall. “I need to sign some forms, then I have an hour free.”

Emerson stood up. “Okay, I’m going to get us all coffee while you do that.”

“I’ll help.” Wolfie followed her out of the door, closing it behind her.

I sat down at my desk, flicking through the stack of papers that had been left for me, along with a pile of mail I’d pushed to one side and would get to eventually. Freddie picked a grumbling Sam up and started feeding him. I was undoubtably biased, but I definitely had the cutest nephew on the planet.

“How are you getting on?”

She looked up from her hungry son. “Okay, except I’m basically a human cow right now.”

I laughed as I signed through the forms. “How’s Coop managing?”

“He’s amazing. He’s so patient, he gets up in the night to bring Sam in for his feed, and he’s been taking him out for runs in the stroller so I can have some time to sleep. He’s been incredible, especially since our parents have all gone home now.” She pulled a face. “I shouldn’t sound so surprised really, because he was like this all pregnancy too.”

I started scrawling my signature across the forms. “Probably because he’s such a control freak. How’s it been since they left for the games?”

She stroked Sam’s head as he suckled. “Wolf and I were together all day yesterday, which made things easier, and Emerson stayed last night. But fuck me, I don’t know how single parents do it. They must have superhuman powers. Coop will come back to the house looking like a baby bomb went off, even with the housekeeper.”

I chuckled again. Coop was not one for mess or didn’t used to be, but I had a feeling he wouldn’t really care what the place would look like. He was so completely in love with Samson and Freddie that it was unlikely he’d even notice.

“But the nanny will start soon, and that will make it easier too. Coop needs sleep, he can’t play when he’s tired, and as amazing as he is right now, you and I both know what he’s like when he hasn’t slept.”

Yeah. I’d rather spend time with a hungry bear than Cooper when he was tired. A hungry bear would also have better talking skills.

“Are you going to start working again?”

“Not yet, but I’m going to be helping with Emerson’s new studio, just not as hands-on as I would normally be. Then when that’s done, I’ll think about it, but I don’t really want to do much to be honest.”

I nodded. “That’ll be good though.”

“Yes. I’m hoping it’ll help combat the baby brain.”

I signed the last of my paperwork just as the door opened, Emerson and Wolf returning with coffees.

“You done?” Wolfie handed one to me.

“Thank you.” I grinned at her. “I’m done.”

“Good.” She sat on the couch and patted the space next to her. “Come and sit. We want to know everything. All the boom-chicka-wow-wow.”

My nose creased in confusion as I sat down. “The what?”

Freddie rolled her eyes. “She doesn’t want to say ‘sex’ or ‘fucking’ in front of the babies.”

Emerson snorted as Wolfie scowled at her.

“Okay, start from the beginning.”

I curled my feet underneath me and got comfy. “What do you already know?”

I worried her head was about to come loose from her shoulders from the vigor with which she was shaking it, her blonde hair flying about. “I know nothing at all, just what I’ve heard from these two about the kidnapping, and Felix talking to Cooper, which was sounded pretty funny.”
