He blinked in surprise. “You are?”

“Yes.”

“Good, that’s good. Anyway, whatever, I’m sorry, okay? I’ve apologized, let’s move on.”

“Sure.” Because that was the best I was going to get, and it was more than I ever expected, not that it made it okay.

“Right, well, I’ll see you around.” He swiftly turned and walked out without looking at Cooper.

“Clevs is right, that guy is a douche. And he can’t apologize for shit.”

“Yeah.”

He walked over to me, looking down at the desk. “Hey, this is like your old study charts.”

“I know. It’s for my Fellowship.”

He stood there looking at it, then snapped his fingers. “You know, you could make one for Felix.”

“Why would he want my study chart?”

“No, dummy. For his schedule and then your schedule. Make a schedule for you two.”

“What for?”

“You know, for a genius, you’re really not so smart sometimes. For when you see each other, doofus. When next season’s schedule comes through, then you can match it up to your Fellowship schedule, see what overlaps.”

I don’t know what had happened to Cooper recently, but whatever he’d been reading seemed to have made an impact. Or maybe Freddie was behind it.

“Like a relationship Venn Diagram?”

“Eh, sure.”

He clearly had no idea what I was talking about. But, either way, it wasn’t a bad idea. I could make a schedule for Felix and me. It wasn’t the most romantic apology, but if I did it right, then I could make him laugh, and make him see that I wanted us to work, that I was trying as hard as I could.

“Okay, I think my work here is done. Sam and I have man business to attend to now.”

He took Sammy from my arms and put him back into the snowsuit laying on the chair before strapping him into the sling across his chest, tightening the harness. I walked him over to the door, kissing Sam and adjusting his bobble hat before reaching up to kiss Coop.

“Thanks for coming to see me.”

“You’re welcome. It’ll be okay, don’t worry.” He hugged me back. “Come over to the house for dinner soon.”

“I will.” I closed the door behind him as he walked away and went back to my desk.

I sipped my cold coffee and peered over the schedule, picking up a sticky tab, flicking it between my fingers as I thought.

I loved Felix more than anything, and I wasn’t going to lose him. The fog clouding my brain began clearing the longer I stood staring, and slowly a plan formulated.

I just hoped it would work.

Ipulled up to Felix’s, waiting for the gates to open as they detected the sensors on my car. I knew he wasn’t home, because Cooper had told me he was at the club. I had aboutthirty minutes before he’d arrive back, which would give me enough time to set up my apology.

I stopped in my usual spot, got out and ran around to open the trunk. Lifting out one of the two big easels, I took it inside to the kitchen before grabbing the other one, and set them up side by side.

Cooper had been right, all I needed to do was fit our lives together in a way that worked. And as we both lived by strict schedules, that’s how I needed to plan our time. I’d spent the last two days planning out the next year on the biggest sized piece of cardstock I could find, thirty-six inches by twenty-four inches. I’d even laminated it, so he’d see how serious I was. Because you didn’t laminate anything unless it was the real deal.

I tried to swallow the nerves which were causing the air to thin out and my breathing to shallow. Nerves I was having that this wouldn’t work. And as we’d never argued before I had no way of knowing how he’d react. Because even though I meant this apology from the bottom of my heart, a tiny voice was whispering in my ear that it wouldn’t be enough. And if that was the case, I’d find another way to apologize.
