Man had a point.
I grabbed one of the bears. It was so cuddly and soft I could probably fall asleep on it myself. Flossie would definitely love this.
Win one for the godfather already.
We managed to get everything inside with three trips, taking it all through to the new playroom Jasper had added to his house.
Murray clapped his hands together. “Right, beer time.”
“I’ll catch you up.” I wanted to find Emerson.
I searched through a couple of rooms before I hit the jackpot. She was sitting with Freddie and Wolf, and their moms. And she was holding Flossie. Staring down at the bundle in her arms, she was whispering quietly to her, or just keeping her voice low while talking to the others, didn’t matter. A bent finger was in Flossie’s mouth, letting her suckle on it.
If I was a girl, I’d be talking about ovary overload or some shit. What was the boy equivalent? Ball-sac bursting?
Shudder.
No, that sounded terrible.
Maybe there wasn’t a word for what I felt.
I’d always known I wanted kids, vaguely known it would happen at some point in my life, but I’d never given much thought before as to who their mother would be.
Until now.
I leaned against the doorframe, quietly, not wanting to disturb this picture of perfection in front of me. But I had zero fucking doubt she’d be having my babies one day.
I walked away to find that beer.
A couple more of the guys had turned up when I wandered into the TV den off the kitchen, everyone gathered to watch the pre-game, including Jasper and Wolfie’s dads, and I hugged them hello. Dodgers were hosting the Nationals for Game Five of the World Series. Emerson’s brother had been having a great season, the commentators predicting him for MVP. He was a phenomenal player, even if he was a dick.
Huck handed me a beer as I sat down on the sofa next to him.
“Thanks, dude.”
He looked at me, frowning. “Can you knock that weird grin off your face please? It’s freaking me out, and you look like you’ve escaped from somewhere.”
“What weird grin?”
But I knew, and it probably wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon. If I didn’t think it would earn me a punch in the face, I’d been shouting from the rooftops I’d met the mother of my children.
I stared at him, my grin getting wider.
His eyebrow rose. “Bet it’ll be weird watching baseball in bed now.”
Well, that got rid of it.
“What?”
“Well, when you’re in bed with Emerson, naked, you don’t really want her brother on the TV, do you?”
I narrowed my eyes at him. “First off, don’t ever fucking talk about Emerson being naked. And second, yes, you have a point.”
Felix sat down on the other side of me, placing a bowl of chips in his lap. “Why are you talking about Emerson being naked?”
“We’re fucking not. Stop saying that.”
Huck threw his head back, laughing. “Chill out, just needed to get rid of that stupid grin. And it worked.”
