I was in the clouds and everything felt right. Sauntering barefoot into the kitchen, Celine’s voice rocked me from my dreamworld. I thought I smelled something being cooked, but for all I knew, it was just my hungry ass taste buds.
“Good morning.” She greeted me.
“Shit! You scared me!” I hissed, jumping so hard I had to cross both legs to keep from peeing on myself.
“Mmm, I bet. You were up sinning most of the night.” She remarked.
My jaw dropped and she chuckled while shaking her head as she stirred whatever was in the pot in front of her. She was quieter than normal and a little solemn, so I was concerned.
“Everything okay?” I asked, reaching for sliced fruit on the tray in front of me.
“Everything is fine. I have some errands to run. Do you need anything while I’m out?”
“What is going on with you and Free?” I questioned, brows dipping in a frown while I studied a piece of pineapple in my hand.
“What do you mean?” Celine spun around and asked nervously.
“I mean both of you are being weird.” I countered, observing her from where I sat. “Did something happen last night?”
“It’s not for me to talk about.” She replied, turning her head back to the pot. “You want biscuits and gravy?”
“Oh yes, hell yes.” I perked up at the island and grabbed a napkin to tuck into my shirt.
As soon as the plate was in front of me, I scarfed it down with no remorse. Celine let the rest cool and sipped her coffee but remained quiet. She stood there watching me eat and I was starting to feel like an animal at the fucking zoo. She didn’t even seem to be paying attention to me. Sipping her coffee nervously, she kind of stared through me like she was in another time zone.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” I queried, concerned.
“Chile, yes. I’m gonna go get my things so that I can take care of these errands.” She took her mug over to the sink and emptied what was left.
“Okay. See you later.” I watched her flee the room.
Something was definitely up around here. I didn’t want to rock the boat with a bunch of questions. Whatever it was, theshit seemed to be heavy because Celine and Frequency were walking light. By the time I finished with breakfast I was ready to go back to sleep. When I got to the stairs, Frequency was casual in slacks and a shirt coming down them, buttoning his dress shirt. The jacket to his suit was slung over his arm, and when he stopped at the bottom, he faced me. Looking me up and down in his shirt, he smirked.
“Stealing my shit already?” He teased.
“Fits nicely, right?” I joked, staring down at myself.
“Perfectly,” He agreed, soaking me in with a heavy, hungry stare.
His hand fell on my collar bone and he leaned forward, meshing his lips against mine. Our tongues grazed one another before he was pulling himself away. My eyes remained closed, and his fingers gently swiped my face.
“I’ll be back. It’s some business shit. Ivy will be here this evening. I figured we could sit down and talk to her about us.”
“Really?” I lifted both brows and my heart skipped.
“Yeah. No hiding this time. All in, remember?” He winked at me before pecking my forehead.
I stared after him in a love trance. This man.He was every fucking thing.Whew!I went back upstairs to take a bath and ended up going back to my room so that I could get clothes and be dressed for the day. When I got out, I did my hair and an hour after breakfast I was starving again. I had my cell in hand while going to the kitchen and it vibrated with an alert. It was Chevy.
“Hey, girl. What’s going on?” I greeted her, going right to the fridge.
“I probably won’t be at work on Monday. I just need a few mental days.” She sounded down, and I frowned while grabbing the bacon and eggs.
“Okay, well what’s wrong? Did something happen?” I brought it all to the counter.
“Ledge fucking happened. I’m so sick of that nigga it’s not even funny. We are done. I can’t keep doing this bullshit with him.” Her voice cracked and I heard her choke on the other side of the phone. She was really in pain.
“I’m sorry, Chev. Take all the time you need. I can handle the office. Let me know if you need anything.”
