"Stop that. You're going to scare him," Yu said but Stan just waived him off.
"That's not a bad thing. It means Sam is special, but he should still know what he's getting into," Stan said with a shrug.
"You're just a troublemaker," Yu accused him.
"I'm giving invaluable advice," Stan told him then he gestured at Sam with a bottle of water. "Keep a close eye on Wyatt. If he tries to escape, tie him to the headboard. It's for his own good. He can't spend all his life running around."
As they left him to straighten the kitchen, Sam felt confused and kind of sick. He thought about what Stan said and how they had just talked about Sam being the boy's dad. But that was really Gloria's doing.
Maybe Wyatt felt put on the spot by what the kids said and everyone being there. Sam didn't know what to think.
After the guys and Raquel left, promising to visit soon, Sam was feeling a little down. He couldn't help wondering if Wyatt's friends were right.
Ready to help Wyatt clean up, Sam was hoping to distract himself by keeping busy. Wyatt wouldn't let him though. After he got shooed out of the kitchen, Sam straightened up the living room instead.
A bit later, Wyatt came out, smiled at Sam enigmatically then ducked into his office. From in there, he asked Sam for a favor. "Can you sit in front of my laptop for a while? I'm downloading this huge file from a really slow server. Could you watch it for me? If it stops, resume it. I just have a few more things to finish up in the kitchen."
"OK," Sam told him, and looked after him as he rushed off.
Wyatt was acting kind of funny. Maybe all that talk about Sam being like a father to the boys had scared him or made him uncomfortable. Things had to be moving too fast for him. Of course he would want to slow things down.
Sitting there, Sam tried not to feel disappointed. He supervised the download, then went to let Wyatt know it was done. On his way through the living room to the kitchen, he spotted two glasses that had been left behind and went to get them. Standing in the living room, almost forgetting about the glasses in his hands, Sam looked at the front door and wondered if he should stay at his place tonight.
That's when Wyatt stepped out of the kitchen and swooped in on him. "Not trying to escape, are you?" Wyatt said and he grabbed him around the waist and kissed him.
"Watch the glasses," Sam told him once he was able then he set the glasses down. "I was coming to tell you that the download finished."
"Good. Thanks," Wyatt said like he didn't really care about it that much any more.
"Did you have fun at your dinner party?" Sam could tell that he did. Wyatt looked bright eyed like an overexcited kid who would never get to sleep.
"Sure I did. But you were your usual quiet self. I know you didn't get a chance to get to know Stan and Yu, but we'll have them over again. They're good guys," Wyatt said.
"It's not them. I just don't warm up to people that fast," Sam told him. He couldn't bring himself to tell Wyatt the real reason he wasn't too chipper right now.
"I think you'll like them," Wyatt predicted then he backtracked. "Not that you have to like them just because they're my friends. I'll kick them to the curb."
"They were fine," Sam told him, but it was almost like Wyatt knew that they said something that upset him. He wasn't about to admit it though.
"That's over with anyway," Wyatt said. "And now comes the good part. Just the two of us. And I have to warn you. Tonight I'm a man on a mission."
"Don't get too adventurous. The kids are sleeping," Sam warned him, but he was still wondering what was up with Wyatt.
"I won't get loud, but I need you to come with me." Sam expected they would be heading to his bedroom, but Wyatt led him toward the kitchen and then to the back door. Already, Sam could see a glow coming from the back porch.
"What I have in mind can only be done by candlelight or under moonlight. I was greedy and I chose both," Wyatt said as he opened the back door and they came out onto the porch all lit up with candles.
"How did you do all this?" Sam was amazed. Then he realized, "This is why you had me watch over that download."
"That was just busy work to keep you out of my hair. I'm sneaky like that," Wyatt said and he kissed him. "But I'm forgiven, right?" He was a little breathless as he gave Sam a searching look and his eyes shone with flickering candlelight.
"Yes. I just can't believe it," Sam told him. Not knowing what to expect, he was feeling a little shaky.
"I had help. I asked Lara to bring back every candle she had and she did," Wyatt told him.
"That's why she was back here. But why did you...? I mean, what...?" Sam stumbled over his words, not sure how to finish his question.
"I had to set the scene because I need to ask you something," Wyatt said and he took both of Sam's trembling hands in his.
