Perfection.

Noah Kincaid was absolute perfection.

I’d wanted to mess with his impeccable demeanor. Muss up his hair a bit and put a wrinkle in his blazer. Make him arrive ten minutes late for class. Maybe even fill his sandwich with worms just to see if it would faze him.

But as Noah joined me in my room—after I dutifully remembered to place a green polka-dot toe sock on the doorknob and send a warning text to Teresa—and we made our way to the bed, I discovered that his boxers had a few wrinkles in them. That his heart beat just as fast as mine did as we shed each other’s clothing, and that I could make involuntary sounds leave his lips that sounded wild instead of thoughtfully formed. Then as the sun was fully setting and his lips felt permanently fused against mine in a duet of our own—when he called out my name and we flew over the edge together in a tangle of sweaty limbs—I decided that maybe Noah Kincaid was human after all.

And hours later, as he held me against the soothing beat of his heart while whispering sweet nothings that had my own heart tripping over itself, I found a new word that described him even better.

Mine.

CHAPTER32

A Bottle of Syrup

Birds didn’t gently rouseme from my sex-induced slumber the next morning. Sunlight wasn’t streaming mystically through the blinds, and there was a distinct lack of bacon scent wafting in from a nonexistent kitchen.

All in all, it should’ve never qualified to be the best morning of my life.

Not even top ten.

But I woke up snuggled against Noah’s side with his arm wrapped around my middle. I came into awareness with his warm, bare skin pressed flush to mine. When I blinked my groggy eyes open, it was to find his sleepy hazel ones looking back at me.

I hummed pleasantly, positive there was no better way to wake up. I pressed my lips against his chest in a kiss while subtly checking for a pool of drool—all clear—before following up with another kiss as I worked a trail all the way up to his ear until I could cuddle closer and whisper, “Your penis was inside me last night.”

Noah grunted. “For heaven’s sake, Emma.”

He shook his head and leaned further back against the pillows while giving me a look far too stern for such a decadent morning.

“What?” I asked innocently, basking in the afterglow of such a fun night as my lips stretched into a wide smile. His hand traced down my back while I pressed myself more fully against him. This was something I could get addicted to. “I’m just saying… I’d like you to put it inside me again.”

Noah snorted, and his chest shook against mine. The grin spread across his face like a wildfire, and I couldn’t resist returning it. His free hand entangled itself in my nest of hair, and he pulled my head toward his until his lips molded to mine in a deep kiss that made me want to melt straight through the mattress.

But he backed off and placed a much shorter, chaster kiss on my lips—then another—before murmuring against them. “Hold that thought, beautiful.”

Noah’s delectable lips left mine, only to land fleetingly on my forehead before backing off completely. His fingers massaged my scalp before letting go, and then I could only watch in growing confusion as Noah slid me off his front and got up from the bed.

A bed we had just spent most of the night doing dirty things in… A bed that was warm and soft and inviting… A bed that his very willing and enthusiastic girlfriend was lying naked in.

And he just got out like it was nothing.

“You’re leaving?” I asked after a long beat of watching him locate his scattered clothing through the rest of my clutter. I hoped the growing sensation in my chest was a sign of indigestion instead of my heart dropping. He probably got a text and had to run off for work. Or maybe there was a tornado, and he was keeping a clear head while preparing for us to find cover.

Or maybe he was just leaving because it was the morning after and that’s what people did sometimes. I was an idiot to think he’d want to stick around and hang out.

I tried to push those thoughts down by focusing on his bare, toned butt as he fished for his boxers on the floor.

It worked. I was happy again.

Noah looked over his shoulder with a puzzled smile as he tugged on his boxers, and he let out a breath of laughter.

“I’ll be back in thirty minutes, and then I’m going to take you up on that offer,” he said with a pointed look. I swallowed at the promise in his eyes while he slid on pants. Then I felt like chopped liver just lying there, so I scooted across the mattress, but Noah reached for my arm before I could get up. He leaned down for another kiss, and my stomach flipped over itself as his lips brushed against mine. “Don’t get up. Keep the bed warm for me. Thirty minutes, I promise.”

All righty then. I watched him finish dressing before grabbing his phone and wallet off the nightstand. Where did he have to run off to for thirty minutes on a Sunday morning?

Another kiss to my forehead, then he grabbed my dorm key before sweeping out the door. I scooted over to the warm section of the bed he’d left behind and pulled the top sheet over my chest as my brain worked to process the latest events.

I just slept with Noah Kincaid—and I didn’t even have to drug him this time!
