“Freddie gets all the credit for a brilliant idea to involve the podcasters.”

“I’ll make sure he hears from me directly.”

“He’d love that. How’s Memphis doing?”

“She’s great. She’s been my rock through all of this.”

“I had a thought about her.”

“What’s that?”

“I remember how you said you two are dealing with a potential issue at work.”

Jesse sighed. “I’m going to have to do something about that before much longer. I doubt we’re fooling anyone at this point.”

“One of my detectives gave notice this week, so I have an opening on my team. Not sure she’d want to give up a federal job for a city job, but I’d be happy to advocate for her if she’s at all interested.”

“Wow, Sam… That’s an amazing idea. Let me run it by her and get back to you next week, if that’s okay.”

“That’s fine. We’ve got time.”

“Thank you for thinking of her.”

“Of course. She’s an impressive young woman and an accomplished LEO. We’d be lucky to have her.”

“We’ll be in touch.”

“Have a safe ride home.”

She’d no sooner ended that call than her phone rang with another, this time from AUSA Charity Miller.

“Hey, what’s up?”

“Sam… McDermott is insisting we amend the charges against your brother-in-law to felony assault.”

So, there it is! STATE OF UNREST took me on a wild ride that had so many twists and turns I almost sprained my brain! I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I loved writing it. I love being with Sam and Nick and their people for months at a time for each new book and look forward to writing STATE OF MIND to hopefully release at the end of the year. Fingers crossed!

In the meantime, you can join the State of Unrest Reader Group at www.facebook.com/groups/stateofunrest1/ and the series reader group at www.facebook.com/groups/fatalseries.

Many thanks, as always, to the team that supports me every day: Julie Cupp, Lisa Cafferty, Jean Mello, Emily Force and Ashley Lopez, and to my amazing designer Kristina Brinton, for her work on the covers for this series and Fatal. Huge thanks to my editors, Joyce Lamb and Linda Ingmanson, for always whipping my books into shape, and to my Fatal/First Family readers, who help to keep the details straight: Kara Conrad, Jennifer Anderson, Gina Leveroni, Kelly Hauhn, Irene Bueckert, Jennifer Toman, Sarah Cumming, Kelly Gustafson, Juliane Sullivan and Karina Felizardo.

To the readers who still love Sam and Nick as much as I do: THANK YOU so much for your continued support of this series and me. Love you all.

Marie
