“I wasn’t trying to?—”

“Stay out of my way, Jhene.”

She brushes past me, stomping out of the kitchenette area and back down the hall that leads to the pub’s main floor.

I roll my eyes and shake my head. We’ve never exactly been the best of friends, but this level of attitude from the redhead is new.

Whatever her issue is, it’s none of my concern. I have bigger problems to worry about.

The weeks that follow are some of the happiest times of my life.

Killian and I reach a point in our relationship where we’re so domestic, so used to each other that life feelssafe.

My nervous system has settled, and I’ve remembered how to smile and laugh again. I’m able to appreciate our moments together, even with the dread I’ve never been able to shake.

It helps that I trust him. That I know he’s fighting for me. That maybe… just maybe we’ll find a way to get Eva backandsurvive Fedorov’s wrath.

Does it sound delusional? One hundred percent. Actually, onethousandpercent delusional.

But I let myself believe a little. Hope forms as a bubble inside my chest, and I can’t bring myself to pop it just yet.

We go grocery shopping on Sundays.

There’s a neighborhood corner market a few blocks down that we frequent. On any given Sunday morning, you can find us browsing the aisles. Killian’s favorite department in the entire store is the protein supplements section. That, and the meat counter.

I toss snacks into the cart when he’s not looking. He complains about the price of eggs.

“Four damn dollars,” he grumbles. “These aren’t even farm fresh.”

“We could always get imitation eggs. Those are, um, sort of good.”

He scowls. “Imitation eggs are not real eggs. My diet?—”

“I know, I know! Your diet calls for a carefully curated selection of protein and fat. That includes real eggs,” I recite listlessly.

His arm slides around my waist, and he drags me up against his side. Close enough for him to bow his head and growl in my ear, “Wait ’til we get home, stray.”

Sometimes we don’t even make it home.

Killian and I have developed a habit of… having a little X-rated fun at various places.

Malone’s Gym. The Rialto Theater. Once at the Banshee when I stay late for closing and we’re alone. A few times in his Escalade when the urge strikes us.

We’ve entered that phase of our relationship where we admittedly can’t keep our hands off each other.

“I can’t take it!” I cry out as I rock against him. “It feels too good!”

His answer comes out partially muffled by the fact that he’s got my breast in his mouth. He’s sucking away, sending a frisson of pleasure straight through me.

We’re parked on a secluded side street in his Escalade, coming off a trip to Callahan House. The car shakes with us, our gyrations growing wild and chaotic.

I’m riding him, taking his dick as deep as it’ll go. Killian’s so big it’s an impossible task.

He fills me up to the back of my pussy and wakes up every nerve ending inside me. My walls flutter, pleasure radiating like tiny hot shocks.

It really is too much. It’s so overwhelming I don’t last long.

Killian sucks harder on my breast then bites and tugs atmy nipple, and I’m a goner. I let out my sharpest cry yet, freezing up in his lap.
