Lucie’s face pinches and she runs a hand over her stomach. “Maybe it’s me who will call with how much these two wrestle in my stomach. I’ll admit, I do love being pregnant the majority of the time, but three’s going to be our number.”

Lucie kicks her foot over to me. “What about you, Mia? Thinking you and Adam will be one and done?”

I nearly choke on my drink. I always thought I’d want at least two kids. I didn’t have any siblings growing up, so the idea was nice. But my current reality has made it a little hard to bethinking of big picture plans beyond the ones me and Adam are dealing with now.

“Let me get through this pregnancy first and let you all know. I might have traumatized Adam enough already that he’s one and done, though.”

“Ha!” Jensen mocks. “In the beginning…maybe. I could see it in both of your eyes that it wasn’t the plan, but Mia, be so for real—that man is happier than he’s ever been. And he wasn’t exactly ‘unhappy’ to start with.”

A warmth radiates through my chest. It’s one thing to be all happy and in love with Adam, but there’s something about the people we care about seeing it too that helps make all of it feel real.

Things have been going really smoothly. So much so that I’ve been actively arguing with my brain multiple times a day that there isn’t this smoking gun or other shoe that hasn’t dropped yet.

And it’s not just our relationship that seems to be rainbows and butterflies, but both our jobs are going really well. I’m getting so ahead of schedule and getting systems prepped for when I go on maternity leave that I don’t even feel super stressed about leaving.

The Blues are having another incredible season. And because I’d like to say I’m fully versed in baseball now, Adam’s stats are definitely used when I want to brag about how cool my husband is.

It’s not too good to be true when it’s the reality…right?

Lucie lets out a groan as she continues to run her hand over her stomach.

Jensen and I share a terrified look.

“You okay, Luce? Are you going to have the twins in my apartment?”

She lets out a weak laugh. “No, I’m not in labor. Braxton Hicks contractions are wreaking havoc on my lower back and these two just keep turning round and round. I really meant it that I love being pregnant, but also…I’m a little ready to get them out of me. And I still have six weeks.”

Jensen finishes off her drink and makes her way back to my couch. “Selfishly, I’m glad you’re not in labor as I fear that is a pressure I’m not equipped to handle. And Daddy Dex needs to be in town, so clench.”

I laugh at the joke, but Lucie…not so much.

“That’s not how it works.”

“I know that, Luce, I was kidding.” Jensen lays her head on Lucie’s shoulder. “For you, I’d catch the babies if I had to.”

“Yeahhh, unfortunately, I might sit that one out. I’m not sure I’m mentally ready to think about pushing this one out—I don’t think seeing it will help me.”

Lucie laughs. “Tell me about it. I’m pushing out two! Or they cut them out.”

Jensen lets out a muffled scream. “Aye, different topic please.”

Lucie lays her head on Jensen’s and pats her cheek. “I’m sorry. You’re right.”

Reaching for the remote, I turn the game on. We’re a week into away games and they just got to Atlanta this morning. “Okay, so what are our chances of beating the Bolts tonight? Their season has essentially matched ours.”

Jensen shakes her head. “I love how invested you’ve gotten in this sport.”

“Wh—hey, I can be sporty. I’ll have you know I played some volleyball in high school.”Sort of.

Jensen’s cheeks puff before muffling her laugh. “Like, on the team?”

“Gym class counts, doesn’t it?”

“No, it doesn’t!”

Lucie weighs in next. “Sorry, I have to agree, it doesn’t count, but to be fair that’s also the extent of my athletic abilities. I’ve always loved watching baseball.”

“She means she loves watching Dex play.” Jensen leans back on the couch. “Her lucky girl syndrome is at max capacity with marrying her favorite player. Both of you, really.”
