“Um, I believe you should count yourself in that lucky charm trio, Jen.”

The smile tugs at the corner of her lips, but when Beck is shown on the TV, she lets it grow. “Arguably, I’m the luckiest of us all. I didn’t want to rub it in your faces.”

Lucie and I both swat her shoulders.

“I could argue that.” Lucie scoffs.

“We’re all lucky in our own ways. Granted, I think Callie and Emma have us edged out now since they’re traveling with their guys.”

Lucie hums. “Not Emma yet. She’s been holding firm on thefriendsthing. At this point, I don’t know if she’ll ever give Tripp a chance.”

“I reject that notion. I’m about three-ish interactions away from smooshing their heads together and forcing a kiss.”

Jensen snorts. “You’d be doing them a favor.”

When the announcer switches to the game, I smile seeing Adam squatted behind home plate and my brain flashes back to the cat in the park today.

“Okay, no one judge me—but you can enable me, so keep that in mind. I miss Adam so much and my hormones are so fucked that I almost adopted a kitten today. Which is absolutely nuts. Never in my life have I considered a pet, but I got so sad after getting off the phone with him that when I passed an adoption fundraiser in the park, I swear I almost did it. And…I’ve never missed someone like this before. Is this normal or am I crazy?”

Lucie snorts. “You’re not crazy?—”

“Hormonal, probably,” Jensen cuts in, and Lucie nudges her with her elbow.

“Sure, it’s heightened, which I would say is the reason for wanting to adopt the cat, but there’s nothing wrong with missing Adam.”

Jensen rolls her eyes to me. “And in case it needs to be flat-out said, don’t get the cat.”

“I didn’t! But also…he was so cute. Why can’t I get a cat?”

Jensen’s eyebrows pull together. “You just said you’ve never wanted a pet before. If anything, I think you should start going to yoga with Lucie. Gotta admit, I’m a little worried about Luce popping out two babies and you popping out one from your six-foot-four, two-hundred-something-pound boyfriend.”

“Hey, my husband, actually.”

Jensen’s smile gets so big her nose scrunches. “How good did that feel to say?”

It felt really good. I had intended it to come off as a smart-ass response, and it likely did, but the words rolled off my tongue so easily.

Despite how getting married now was more for the benefits—I love the distinction that he’s mine, mine.

“Since we’re talking husbands…” Lucie reaches for the remote, turning it up to hear the announcer talking about Dex coming back this season. “I’m going to request a moment for mine. I’m so mad I can’t be there for the first game they have him starting. He’s been closing up until now to get back in the swing of things.” She huffs. “Mia, the sad hormones get you hard in the beginning, but soon you get this weird rage.”

Jensentsks. “It’s been my favorite development. I’m holding out for more cursing.”

Lucie shakes her head. “If these announcers say anything bad about Dex, I very well might. I hate watching the extra commentary.”

Setting my drink on the side table, I lean back on my couch. “Yeah, once you get them live, the TV doesn’t exactly compare. Sometimes I mute it and just wait for the camera guy to do me a favor.”

Jensen snorts. “A favor?”

“Yeah, give it a second.”

We all kick our feet up on my coffee table and watch as they finally switch back over to the game. Dex throws a nice knuckleball for a strike, and then another which gets some cheers from Lucie.

And then the cameraman does his thing, and I get a nice view of Adam’s ass in his pinstripes.

“See, the Lord’s work. Don’t worry, they’ll show your men too in just a few.”

Jensen lets out a light whistle. “Bless you, camera crew.”
