As she went through each report, he jotted it the on the board.

“Here’s what we got,” he said.

She eyed the white board.

B U L L Y

“Whoa,” she said.

“The unsub wants the world to know something so important, he’ll kill to get his message out there.”

She pushed out of her seat, stood next to him. Close enough so that their arms brushed together. A ripple of desire trilled through him.

He didn’t move away.

Neither did she.

His insides thrummed with passion. Being around her had his head buzzing on a high like he’d never known.

What happened if they started something that didn’t work out? Could she handle the break up if they had to work together? They were already under tremendous pressure to find the killer. On top of that, she’d just moved back to the area. She’d just started a new job too.

Maybe it would be better if he backed the hell off. Thelastthing he’d wanted was to inflict any kind of emotional or mental pain on her.

As if she could feel his inner turmoil, she turned toward him. He met her gaze.

Fuck.

They were on each other, the rush of desire pounding through him. The kiss was raw and savage. She raked her hands down his back, thrust her tongue into his mouth, her raspy moans cutting through the silence.

He caressed her back, palmed her ass. His erection pulsed, desperate to be freed, then lodged inside her. The intimacy he craved from her had him biting back a growl.

Then, she abruptly ended the kiss. Panting hard, she stared into his eyes. “Maybe if we do it, we’ll get it out of our systems.”

“We’vebeendoing that.”

With trembling fingers, she wiped her wet mouth.

“Ever since we started ‘doing it’, you’re all I want,” he said. “I can’t stop thinking about you. And it’s not just sex. I want to be with you all the damn time.”

His voice was a gritty, gravelly whisper, like sandpaper against the wall.

“Ohgod, we can’t,” she whispered.

“I know.”

They separated, the chilly air rushing to surround them, leaving him missing her that much more.

“I just started working here,” she said, straightening her sweater. “I got this job because of Z?—”

“You got theopportunitybecause of Z,” Rebel pushed back. “You earned this or you wouldn’t be here. ALPHA doesn’t do pity hires.”

She laughed. Her joy sent warmth rushing through him. “Pity hires. That’s a good one.”

She’s so damn special.

“My second week at ALPHA, I get reassigned a new mentor, then I take someone’s case.”

“Again, I gotta disagree. You didn’t take it. Youdeservethis case.”
