Her sister extended a trembling hand. “I’m Honor.”
“I’m Addison.”
Addison shook her hand then pulled her in for a hug.
A sigh floated from Honor. “I’m so nervous. Thanks for hugging me.”
Honor wore no makeup. Small boned and dainty-looking, she stood a little taller than Brit, with wavy brown hair that cascaded past her shoulders. Brit found her pretty. Even the melancholy in her dark blue eyes drew her in.
“I’m Britain.” Feeling obligated, she gave Honor a quick hug. Her shampooed hair smelled like roses.
Honor returned to her chair. Brit and Addison sat across from her.
“This is a little weird,” Honor said. “I found out I had sisters when we moved here.”
“It is strange,” Brit agreed.
“We don’t look alike,” Honor said. “But I can tell you’re sisters. You’re both so pretty.”
“You’re pretty too,” Brit said.
A sweet smile brightened Honor’s face.
“Tell us about yourself,” Addison said. “Where did you grow up?”
“Yeah, so, my dad’s a cult leader. My childhood was kinda weird,” Honor replied. “What did you think of Mom?”
“My mom died,” Brit bit out.
“Brit,” Addison scolded.
The waitress hurried over. “Sorry for the wait. Can I get you something to drink? Maybe an appetizer to start?”
Iced-teas all around. Brit ordered a sandwich for herself, and one to-go for Rebel. Addison did the same, ordering an extra for Hawk. Honor selected a pasta dish for herself and also one to-go.
When the waitress left, Honor laughed. “I’m bringing my stepdad lunch. What about you guys?”
“Coworker,” Brit replied.
A coworker I’m falling in love with.
“My husband,” Addison said. “Where’s Liliana?”
“She’s been invited to speak at an event in DC, so she’s at a meeting for it,” Honor replied. “She said she invited you guys.” Honor rolled her eyes. “Expect to get paraded up on stage.”
“Seriously?” Addison asked.
“Oh, yeah. She loves to talk about how we survived a cult, so I get called up on stage to smile and wave at the crowd. Now, she’s got two more victims.”
“I’m planning on going,” Addison said.
With raised brows, Honor said, “You’ve been warned.”
“Why would she inviteuson stage?” Brit asked. “We weren’t in the cult.”
“You were victims,” Honor said. “She left because she’d been brainwashed. It’s kind of her thing. Plus, it sells books. You’ll see.”
“Not a fan of Liliana?” Brit asked as the server delivered their iced-teas.
