“We’re not super close.” Honor pressed the straw to her lips and sucked down the chilled liquid. “I’m writing my own book aboutmylife in the cult. Why should she have all the fun?”
The conversation turned to them. Addison talked about her job as a financial consultant, and Brit touched on being an artist.
At the end of their brief time together, Honor paid for her order, then bolted.
“What did you think?” Addison asked.
“She reminds me of a wounded bird,” Brit said.
“Me too,” Addison agreed.
“She doesn’t seem to like Liliana,” Brit said. “I feel like we dodged a bullet when Liliana left us, which is sad to even say.”
“I know.” Addison put down her credit card. “Makes me love Daddy even more.”
Brit pulled out her card.
“I got this,” Addison said. “You and Rebel can have us over for dinner or take us to dinner at his hotel.”
“Me and Rebel? Are you crazy? I work with him.”
Addison smirked at her sister. “It’s me you’re talking to.”
Brit leaned close. “He’s so sexy. He’s smart. Gorgeous. When he smiles, I can’t even stand it.”
Concern clouded Addison’s eyes. “I love that you’re so happy.”
The pit in Brit’s stomach grew. She’d seen that look before. “Are you worried about me?”
“I love Rebel,” Addison said. “But I’m concerned you’re moving too fast.”
“I don’t disagree with you.”
“I just don’t want you to get hurt, that’s all.”
“Neither do I,” Brit replied.
The server dropped off their to-go orders, took Addison’s credit card.
“Please don’t say anything to anyone about him,” Brit said. “I’m trying to play this one chill.”
“I would never. Just guard your heart.”
Too late for that.
“My only concern is that he’s not a team player,” Brit said. “And he’s my partner. I’m hoping he doesn’t go rogue on me.”
“He’s been brought in to lead us, so he better not go rogue.”
In the parking lot, Brit said, “It sounds like you’re going to Liliana’s event.”
“I’m curious,” Addison replied. “Aren’t you?”
“No, but I have a feeling you’re going to drag me to it.”
Addison pulled to a stop in front of her SUV. “I can’t imagine going there without you.”
