He’d also considered that someone associated with the Hurly brothers was coming after them.
I don’t think that’s it.
Agitation had Rebel gritting his teeth. He had no fucking idea who wanted them dead.
I’m flying blind.
The elevator door opened, and Brit breezed in with Hawk and Addison. After setting down the bags of carry-out, Hawk pulled him into a bro hug.
“You had a hell of a night,” Hawk said. “How you doin’?”
“Who the fuck knows,” he bit out.
“I can’t believe you—” Addison’s eyes pricked with tears. “Thank you.” She hugged Rebel.
“It was a team effort all the way,” Rebel said. “So, about tonight?—”
“We can’t let Honor or Jordan clean up, and we’ve got to keep their dirty dishes and bottles separate from ours,” Brit said.
“Without makin’ it look obvious,” Rebel added.
“No worries,” Hawk assured them.
Rebel eyed the large brown bags labeled JERICHO ROAD. “Thanks for the food.”
“We got ribs, fries, burgers, slaw, and wings with a few dips,” Addison said.
“I had cupcakes delivered,” Brit added.
After pulling bottles of red and white from his wine collection, Rebel said, “And we got beer.”
“We?” Hawk asked.
Rebel slid his gaze to Brit. Her smile was the lifeline he needed. “Yeah, we’re a we,” Rebel replied. “What can I get you?”
“Beer,” Hawk opened the fridge, pulled out two bottles, held one up for Rebel.
Rebel shook his head. “Water.”
“Red wine,” Addison replied.
“Water for me too,” Brit said.
Brit pulled a wine glass and two lowball glasses from the cabinet. After the drinks were poured, they held up their glasses.
“We love you guys,” Hawk said. “We can’t wrap our brains around what happened to you.”
“I love you, Joaquin,” Addison said.
Brit smiled. “What about me?”
“There would be no you if he hadn’t—” Addison shuddered in a breath.
“My brother, you are theperfectperson to lead the rescue team,” Hawk said.
“One hundred percent,” Brit agreed.
“We are so relieved you’re okay,” Addison said.
