Rebel raised his glass. “Brit was my motivation.”

“To my hero,” Brit said.

“You were just as much of a beast as I was, babe,” Rebel said.

After clinking glasses, they drank.

Brit’s phone buzzed with a text. “They’re here.”

“Computer, lock the office door,” Rebel said.

Brit led them into the living room. Honor had worn a white sweater and a long dark skirt with boots. Jordan was dressed in a dark sport coat, brown shirt, and black pants.

“How you doin’, Honor?” Rebel asked.

He extended his hand to Jordan. “Good seeing you again.”

Jordan offered him a hearty handshake, then held out a bottle of wine.

Rebel took the wine. “Appreciate it.”

“Let me get your coats,” Brit said.

After Honor and Jordan removed theirs, Brit said, “I’ll put these in the guest room.”

She vanished down the hallway.

“Honor hasn’t stopped talking about your home,” Jordan said. “The furniture, the views, the layout?—”
