“I love these trainings,” Slash said. “I’m on my ass way too much.”
“That gets my adrenaline going, for sure,” Addison added.
“Can everyone add one more day of training a week?” Rebel asked.
“I’ve got to make some changes at Armstrong,” Prescott said. “That’ll free up my sched.”
“Evangeline is running Develin and Associates so I can focus on this,” Sin said.
“I’ll run it by Cooper,” Slash said.
“Same,” Addison echoed.
“Coop’s been cleared to hire several more Ops.” Rebel said. “Once that happens, he’ll offload some of your cases.”
“Great!” Addison said. “This is exciting work.”
“You are a beast,” Slash said with a smile.
They piled into the SUVs, drove back to BLACK OPS. In the parking lot, Rebel checked his phone for texts. A few from Lana at his hotel, one from Brit.
“Rolling green,” Brit had texted him.
We’re making an arrest.
He hopped in the SUV. As he drove out of the parking lot, he called her.
She answered. “Hey, we’re waiting on a warrant. Once we have it, we’re moving in for an arrest.”
“Where are you?”
“Your— I’m at home,” she said, correcting herself.
He smiled. “Traffic’s heavy. Be there in forty, babe.”
“We’ll talk then.” She hung up.
When he entered his condo, the mouth-watering smell of chicken and tomato sauce wafted in his direction. Brit had been cooking what looked like a feast.
She hurried over, jumped in his arms. “I’m happy to see you.” Then she hugged him.
“I love this hello.”
Still in his arms, she peered into his eyes. She was staring at him so hard, he said, “You’ve got a lot to unpack, don’t you?”
A sigh floated from her lips. “Yeah, well, I’m gonna stick with the arrest for now.”
“What does that mean?”
She climbed off him, grasped his hand, and led him into the kitchen.
He pulled her close, kissed her again. “Are you feeling better?”
“Oh, yeah. Totally.”
“Did you get to the doc?”
Her shoulders tensed. “No. Let me update you on what’s goin’ down.”
