THE STAKE OUT

Carrera

Carrera and Slash pulled up alongside G-ma as she read over the whiteboard.

“This is a very interesting and disturbing case,” G-ma said. “Amanda May, what are you doing at the club?”

“I’m bartending,” she replied.

“Are you posing as a customer?” G-ma asked Carrera.

“Something like that,” he replied.

After a beat, G-ma regarded Carrera. “Why did Amanda May call you Deputy Director Santini. What happened to being a Special Agent?”

“I got a promotion,” he said.

“Isn’t a Deputy Director an executive?”

“Yes,” he replied.

“What’s that all about,” G-ma asked.

“Luck,” he replied.

She smiled, her eyes crinkling in the corners. “I’m sure I’ll pick up plenty just by listening.”

Slash chuckled. “I’m sure you will.”

THAT EVENING,he and Slash went upstairs to get ready. Tonight, they were staking out the club. If Greg showed up, they’d attach a tracker to his car. Carrera added G-ma to his security system before he and Slash went upstairs to change. She stopped at his spare bedroom.

“This is me,” she said.

“Why are you in here?” he asked.

“It’s a room.” She walked in, tugged off her shirt, and wiggled out of her skintight jeans.

Hiswoman in a sexy, lace bra and matching panties had him raking his gaze over her. “I want you in my bed.”

Slash tugged on a form-fitting black shirt and skintight pants that hugged her toned thighs. After pulling her hair into a ponytail, she covered her head with a black knit cap. Next, she slipped her switchblade into her pocket, pulled her Glock from her go-bag, checked it before returning it.

“Let’s rock this,” she said.

“It’s a stake out, not a kill mission,” he said.

“Either works,” she said with an amused smile.

Her playfulness lit his insides on fire. Not that long ago, they were throwing shade at each other every chance they could get.

“Luciano Santini is approaching the front door,” the computer said.

“What’s he doing here?” Carrera asked.

“Keeping Elsa company. We’ll be gone for several hours, and I don’t want her to be alone.”

He kissed her forehead. “Very loving.”
