“Did you see anything suspicious?” Sin asked.
“Nothing, but I was only there to audition.”
“How’d that go?” Dakota asked.
“She killed it,” Carrera said.
“I never mix biz with pleasure, but I was hoping to talk to Providence,” Slash said. “Any idea where she is?”
“Downstairs with our nanny and the babies,” Dakota replied.
Slash tossed him a nod before heading back inside. At the door way, she turned back. Carrera was waiting, his gaze locked on hers. She arched an eyebrow before vanishing inside.
“That was an invitation, if I’ve ever seen one,” Sin said.
“She hates me,” Carrera said, “and it goes back years.”
“What did you do?” Dakota asked.
“All the wrong things,” Carrera replied.
Slash
Slash foundProvidence in Brit and Rebel’s finished basement. She and a middle-aged woman were feeding the twins. Both babies were in high chairs.
All four turned as Slash moseyed over. “Hey.”
“Hi,” Providence said. “Come join us.”
Providence offered Willow another spoonful, but she shook her head. “All done? Okay, well you did a great job.”
Slash smiled at the woman. “I’m Slash.”
“Miranda. Lovely to meet you.”
“Same,” Slash replied.
“Miranda is our nanny,” Providence said. “She’s been with us since it was just Dakota and Sammy. Now, she takes care of Willow and Clark too.” Providence smiled at the twins. “We love Mrs. Morris, don’t we?”
Both children started babbling.
“I love you too, don’t I?” Miranda asked the twins as she fed Clark. “I love you to the moon and back.”
“I was hoping to talk shop with you,” Slash said to Providence. “Maybe later?”
“Now works.” Providence regarded Miranda. “I’ll just be ten minutes.”
“You’re supposed to be upstairs at your party,” Miranda said. “Take all the time you need.”
“Let’s go out back,” Slash said.
Out of earshot in the yard, Providence said, “I read your progress report. Good job getting hired at the club. Must be a challenge working for Karen Woodside.”
“She’s a mess,” Slash said as they strolled around. “I’ve run into a challenge. If I’m propositioned, I won’t have sex. EvenIdon’t love my jobthatmuch.”
Providence laughed. “Not taking one for the team?”
Slash chuckled. “I was going to bail and have the Bureau send in another case agent, but there’s something else going on there.”
