He shivered. “Every time one of you gets it right, I get hard. It’s so fucking delicious.”
Um. I took a couple of steps backward. “Not interested.”
Lucifer stomped his foot like a spoiled child who wasn’t getting their way. “You can’t reject me before you know what I’m offering.”
Yeah, I could.
“Lockjaw would be very disappointed.” Lucifer gestured to his grave. “He’s been gone a long time, Crypt.”
Yeah, I knew that.Hello? I’m his son.
“What if I can offer you something he never got the chance to hear? Something he was destined to be included in, but his enemies got to him first.”
What the hell was Lucifer talking about?
“The chance to get even. For revenge.”
“I don’t need revenge against anyone.”
“Don’t lie,” Lucifer growled as his eyes began to burn red. “What about Michelle’s attacker?”
A burst of rage filled me, and I rushed toward him, only to be flung backward when he lifted his hand, and I smacked into an invisible wall. “So tiresome,” Lucifer mumbled. “Your sister was attacked. Your father was also attacked. How about a little violence and bloodshed? An eye for an eye?”
Was he talking about murder?
“I can’t kill anyone.”
Lucifer sighed and tilted his head back, dramatically. “You won’t be doing the killing.”
Huh?
He shook his head. “I’m getting bored.”
Okay? Why was he even here?
“Let me spell this out for you, Crypt. Me? Badass devil, leader of the underworld, king of demons, and your master. You? The guy who gets to bond with a Reaper, heap violence on bad guys, and send souls to me. Easy.”
Send souls. . . wait. “Explain in better detail.”
Lucifer pinched the bridge of his nose. “Being a part of the Graven Bastards means you reap the souls of wicked men and send them to hell.”
Did that mean Grim and the other members all. . .reaped souls? “Like the Grim Reaper? With a scythe?”
Lucifer clapped his hands. “Finally. Yes, that’s exactly what it means.”
“How does this work?”
“I offer you a contract, and you sign it.” He shrugged. “It’s a simple business arrangement. You rid the world of bad men, and I get to feed on the suffering of their souls.”
A contract? “Am I signing over my soul?”
Lucifer smirked, which didn’t make me feel any better about his deal. “You’re signing a contract to accept a Reaper and share a bond where he reaps the souls, and you get to help. Think ofthe power you’ll have to rid the world of rapists, predators who target children and the innocent, and human traffickers.”
It had its appeal.
“You can send Trey Burrows to me in hell.”
That motherfucker deserved to rot in hell for eternity. It was hard to say no to this bargain. I would finally get revenge and justice for my sister.
